Choose between money & your favourite job

What do we choose to do with our lives? Do we follow our passion by doing what we like and sacrifice the short-term earnings or do we choose a job that gets us more money up front but doesn’t suit us that much?

What’s the thing that gives us more satisfaction?

It is true, we live in a world that seems to be ruled by the power of money. We struggle to put up with countless bills and taxes and we often get frustrated when we realise we get “too much month left at the end of the money”.

Most people will choose money over passion just for such reasons, but there are quite a few that will take up a job that they find more appropriate for them, even if the wage is lower than in other fields they might be qualified for as well.

I am not going to try to influence you in any way, because I don’t think that it should be anyone’s matter but yours. I will just state the obvious and come up with a series of pros and cons regarding each of the two: money and passion.

Taking up a well-paid job will surely make your life easier. You will afford to go out more, buy the newest widgets and accessories and all that. But in the long run you’ll start to feel more and more unsatisfied and lost.

If the thing you have to do everyday of your life doesn’t suit you, the road to happiness will be a long one.

Going for a ‘dream job’, one that you would do with pleasure and out of passion, may not give you the possibility to buy everything you want, but you will for sure be more relaxed and at peace with yourself.

Choose a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
In my opinion we should somehow meet the midway of the two, passion and money, mix business with pleasure.

You can always choose a job that you enjoy doing, as long as it covers your needs and even your wishes. That, of course, if swimming in money isn’t your definition of happiness.

In that case, go for the unpleasant yet well-paying job. It’s just a matter of perspective and expectations from life.

I'm working for a small company at the moment - get along well with the management team - one of them is a close friend, and I have a pretty good relationship with the Managing director.

I have felt very little unnecessary pressure from this company in the time i've been there. Other companies i've worked for in the past decide to just fuck with their employees for shits and giggles.

So in that sense, it's great.

However, it's been nearly a couple of years now, and because they're quite small, they don't exactly do incremental salary increases on a regular basis - i'm still on the same wage as when I joined, and it is unlikely that would change unless I ask.

I could probably get a job doing exactly what I'm doing now for maybe 10-20% more than I'm earning now - or I could probably get a job earning either the same or 5% more that might be better for my career longer term.

Fact of the matter is, I have a family, and my wife isn't working at the moment, so eventually, out of necessity, I would probably have to make a move to either ask for more money, or move. Even though I'm relatively happy.

Unless of course my crypto portfolio goes "To the Moon!"

As the lyrics of the song goes MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND. But as long as you love your job everything else will follow.

Amazing and very interessing post thank you for sharing

There is no contradiction between doing what you love and making money. Because there is nothing you can excel in better than that you are passionate about. It may take some time but eventually yor passion for something will make you outstanding in it. Thanks @jwolf for the inspiring message.

I prefer to do what i love, i prefer being fulfilled and happy than having the whole world.
Thanks for sharing this @jwolf

I think it's really hard to decide actually.
We can choose one path or the other and that will affect our future. but again, we wont really know if we made the 'right' choice unless we are able to live two lives and make two different choices.
I think personally, choosing the path that allows me to be relatively happy and healthy and less stressed should be the 'optimal' one 🤗

money is need for spend life...sir

love to read it........
thanks for your informative post

Good jop friend

i have only one desire in life, i do what i love not what is expect of me or what i SHOULD be doing. but living in the society makes it harder for us to not do what DAS MAN really want of us. I have seen my dad get up every day ad leave home and come back around 9 AM..... but i am sure he likes it. or maybe he was not given a choice of liking it. @jwolf point being, your post is great and with a lot of potential but it's still hard af. doing is a challenge which a lot of us fail to achieve.... but still hope is there. *fingers crossed

Truer words were never spoken.

Dear money is not every thing good job is good for people because in job human can many experiments and make reputation

Money without doubts.

true, I feel that, in choosing a job that can meet the needs of life is not an easy problem and the salary is not in accordance with the needs of our lives and family.
I keep trying and trying to get me to join the esteem that I think there is a financial change for me and my family.
thank you for motivating in your article.

I would like to be a full time leather craftsman. This is my dream to become a leather craftsman......

But in Hong Kong I can't afford the rental and I don't have enough orders to support me......

in this life that is important we do
which we can, which we can afford, which we like,
the matter of income is no 4
for what results a lot but we suffer

Great post for Monday morning motivation!
Have a nice week!

Well saying! “too much month left at the end of the money”.

Very well said! "Choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life." This is really true. My job now is not exactly a high-paying one but I stick around since I know that doing what I love (we get to travel almost every day) will make me stay and even do better at what I do. If you have time, please check my blog below about my job (and the reason why I love it). Thank you. Steem on!

In a country like India, I don't think it's an option really. There is such availability of job seekers, it becomes very hard to quit your job and take up something else just because you feel like.

But yes, there are exceptions but for most it's too much of a risk.

I believe in anything doing is worth doing well. There is dignity in labour. Good morning

i choose my job between money and job .

5 years ago, when I was trying to get my first job and enter the business life, I chose a job that had come to me so fantastic in that years which is cabin crew..I said I could see around the world, learn new cultures and interact with new people. But after 2 years I noticed that this is not my dream job..very tiring, stressful. The only thing kept me in that job was money. I was earning high. Than I started to think which one I will choose money or my inner peace? After 4 years I quit my job. Even if I know that I will earn that money from another job..If you ask me do you regret now for this, I definitely say no, I don't. I am happy with my desicion.

This is way more easy for women, when they are married. You don’t worry so much that you will lose money, because husband will always support the family- that’s why it is much easier to try yourself in the job of your dreams

If a person did not have the need for the trinkets and extras, then more could follow their passions... they knew this and it is why they programmed the public accordingly.

By the way congratulations on your continued success.

I have my dream to become a businessmen and good sportsman

i will always choose the work which will give me sense of satisfaction

The fact is that you should do something that you really love! If you are lucky enough you can find a job that you like and gives you a decent salary. That would be awesome!

dream job is really hard to get but we need to keep believing

Do we follow our passion by doing what we like and sacrifice the short-term earnings or do we choose a job that gets us more money up front but doesn’t suit us that much?

My take on this:

  1. ENTREPRENEUR - "Follow our passion by doing what we like and sacrifice the short-term earnings..."
  2. AVERAGE 9-5 JOE - "we choose a job that gets us more money up front but doesn’t suit us that much"
  3. WANTPRENEURS - Those in between. Don't stay here, it will bring you nothing but the illusions.
