Health Care, Beauty, and Bathroom Savings (PART TWO)

in money •  8 years ago

This is a continuation of my health care and beauty tips; These will help you save even more money! What I love about many money saving habits, Is they are often better for the environment! We need to be greener on our wallets and our planet!

  • Consider cutting your hair short; it will save money in hair products, dry faster and be easier to maintain.
  • Let your clothes and your hair air dry, it will make your hair look better, and your clothes will last longer, and you will save money on your power bill too!
  • Do not buy pads and tampons! Invest in a moon cup to replace your tampon and for pads, you can get panty liners and reusable pads. They can be sewed or bought online for a reasonable price.
  • Use cloth toilet paper. , if this is too extreme cut back your toilet paper usage by using cloth for just urine.

  • Get in the habit of bringing home napkins from restaurants, paper towels from public bathrooms and reusing those; they can be used as regular paper towels or can help cut back the toilet paper usage.
  • Buy toothbrushes in bulk, or hold off on changing your toothbrush until your dentist check-up. Make sure to get your free one!
  • Browse Freeflys every day because they regularly update their offers. Do not be afraid to go directly to the site of your favorite company and fill out the forms for the free samples.
  • Stay out of and avoid the sun to save money on sunblock or use coconut oil as a cheaper option.
  • Put a brick or bottle filled with dirt, sand or water in your toilet tank, this will raise the water level and lower the amount of water you use per flush.

Reuse your bathtub water. Use the bath water for:

  • Multiple baths for everyone in the family
  • Watering plants or grass
  • Wash dishes
  • Car wash
  • Dog wash
  • Clean the inside of your garbage can.

Stop Flushing the Toliet!

The average person uses the bathroom to urinate six times a day and has just one bowel movement. You will save thousands of gallons of water every year! IF YOU DON'T FLUSH! Or at least don't flush when you pee. Try drinking more water so the smell will not be as bad.

Each person only flushing with a bowel movement will be one flush per person each day. An average of 365 flushes per person per year INSTEAD OF 2555!
This can mean you are using a total of 3000-12,000 gallons of water just by flushing the toilet! If you flush 2,555 times PER PERSON!

  • Consider getting a newer higher efficiently toilet to reduce the amount of water you are using per flush.
  • Use the vinegar on mirrors, glass and countertops. For a deeper clean use baking soda with the vinegar for cleaning the toilet, intense scrubbing in your shower and any other surfaces that need a good cleaning. If you hate the smell, buy some essential oil of your choice and add a couple drops.

  • Take Navy showers-- Wet your body with cold water, turn off the shower, apply soap and do not turn the shower back on until ready to rinse.
  • Buy shaving heads in bulk or buy an old fashioned re-useable one. You can get them discounted from eBay in the major wholesale lots. I also wrote an in-depth article about saving on shaving!
  • Buy hair clips and ties on a wholesale site! Great for adults or children who often lose them.
  • Reuse old toothbrushes for cleaning. They work great for edges.
  • Do not let the faucet run while you are brushing your teeth or washing your face; use the plug and only fill it to your needs or shut it off.
  • Do not wash the towels you use for drying your clean body. Hang up the wet towel and use again.
  • When using the toilet or showering, buy a mini solar powered lamp or candles. It does not require lots of light!
  • Use toilet paper rolls for crafts. You can make a great cord holder or use them to hold wrapping paper in place.
  • Use cloth toilet paper. If this is too extreme cut back your toilet paper usage by using cloth for just urine.
