What is money though? It's just a representation of subjective value. Clipped toenails can be money if there are people that value them enough to exchange them. I wouldn't say people are fixated on money itself, but the value or potential value it represents. I want as much money as I can possibly get even if it means billions because it's that much more value I'll be able to share with others.
