Rich people believe, "I create my own life." Poor people believe, "Life happens to me, regardless of what I do." - T. Harv Eker
My take on this... Most people don't realize the distinction of these two important choices. It's very important to realize one of the key characteristics of rich and successful people. Without this distinction you might go through life waiting for money to fall in your lap or win the lottery. That's not how it works. When you understand this distinction and choose the "I create my life" mentality, then you start to really create your own destiny. How do I do this? Great question.
First, take 100% responsibility for your life right now, the way it is and the way it isn't. You are exactly where you are in life, in all areas, but especially financially, because of all the choices you made since you began managing your money. Have you ever heard the phrase, "The truth will set you free"? It's true, but first it might piss you off. Be honest with yourself.
Next, stop blaming. A victim has no power. You can blame your parents, the economy, your spouse or your boss. But a victim has no power. Stop complaining and blaming. Say out loud, right now, "No power sucks!" Stop giving your power away! Also, there is no such thing as a really rich victim. Think about it. This is so important. Nobody wants to be around a whining, complaining, crap magnet! One more thing on this. When you're whining, complaining and playing poor me, people will avoid you at all costs, but they will not tell you. Most complainers justify all the reasons why their life is so tough. You can't tell them anything! When you're complaining, your mouth is running wild and your ears are closed. You're not open. You're not listening or seeing all the opportunities that are showing up right in front of you. All your friends and business associates will avoid you like the plague, and you won't even know it. Awareness is the key.
The little voice. Who runs the show, you or your little voice? Thoughts are just thoughts. Some empower you and some don't. But guess what, you get to choose. The thoughts that do not empower you can be sent to the delete file. Whenever you have a disempowering thought like, "You can't do that," or "You're not smart enough," or "I don't have the money," simply say to yourself and your little voice, "Thanks for sharing". In other words, start to notice your little voice is rambling on and on over and over, every single nanosecond of every day. It never shuts up! The more you notice it the better you can control it and turn down the volume. I know for some of you, it's really loud. Notice it, "Thanks for sharing," and turn down the volume.
Think of your little voice as an over bearing mother. "Be careful out there. Don't do that." On and on and on. Here's what you really need to understand. Your mind, a.k.a. the little voice's job, is survival. To protect you from failure, disappointment, humiliation, pain, embarrassment, going broke, making a mistake. If it could, your little voice would keep you home in the dark, under the covers, sucking your thumb. Nice and safe, right? Stamp this in your brain. Ready? You are not your mind! Got it? Listen to me and listen good. You are a champion, you are a winner, you are worthy, and most of all you make a difference. If you do not believe that with every cell in your body, then the little voice is running the show.
Here is a declaration for you. Say it out loud with your hand on your heart and feel the vibration. Here it is.
"My mind protects me, my heart directs me. My mind protects me, my heart directs me. My mind protects me, my heart directs me."
Now you know. Take this little tool and put it in your tool box. Use it. Be it. Model it. Share it.
- Fail fast. What?! Fail? Yes, fail fast. Before you can be an expert at this or anything in life, you have to be great at it. Before you can be great, you have to be good. Before you can be good, you have to be bad. Before you can be bad, you have to suck. Do you suck at anything? I hope so. Now give yourself a break and tell yourself, "I suck. Congratulations. Now I can start!
The road to Successville is filled with failure, potholes, obstacles, barriers, roadblocks, breakdowns. You have to go through Suckville to get to Successville. The road to success goes directly through the dumps. You cannot get around it. In other words, failure and obstacles never, ever go away. Once you know that, you can accept failure when it comes up and shrug it off. It's part of the trip. Get used to it now because it never ever, ever goes away. Take action and fail. Fail fast, over and over and over, and then you will succeed. No action = no failure. No failure = no results. Got it?
- Last - take action now! Start. Most people don't start. They want everything to be perfect. This is a huge mistake. "Sloppy success is better then perfect mediocrity!" Results are the only measurement of success. You cannot measure, ideas, thoughts, tries, I-want-tos or I'm-going-to-someday. You have to take action, Jackson! Even if it's small. A good start would be brainstorming on paper about your passion, making a plan, setting some goals, hiring a coach, going to a seminar, and reading a book on the subjects that interest you. Here is something you can do to move forward. Take at least one small action each day, anything, as long as it moves you forward. It could be an email or a phone call. Just do one thing, no matter what, and keep moving forward.
I hope you enjoyed my guide on how to prepare for success.
