In preparation for my trip, I'm cleaning house so to speak. In other words, I'm closing bank accounts I don't use, and setting things up so that I can access funds as cheap as I can while living in another country. That being said, as expected, it's been a frustrating process.

You are negative 44 dollars
I've not used this particular account for a few months already. The account was opened many years ago and it served as the main checking account for a business I used to run. Since there's not enough funds, which I believe it's a minimum of $1500 a month, they've been charging me a maintenance fee to keep my account open.
As you can imagine, this maintenance fee depleted the low funds and then over-drafted the account, so now, In order for me to close I need to put it back to 0. Honestly, as the teller was explaining to me the reasons why I had to pay to close an account, I was imagining making a scene, demanding justice, but know full well that would have no worked in my favor.
Here's the premise I'm to accept:
We charge you money, for holding and using your money, but since you ran out of money, due to the charges we've been charging you, now you owe us money.
It's so ridiculous, I can't believe anyone finds it logical. It feels like theft to me, theft with a suit and a smile, but I'm still bound to playing by the rules.
Obstacles
After closing this account and reluctantly paying the 44 dollars, I asked the teller to close my personal account as well. As you might imagine, her face changed into "serious mode" and asked me "Why?". I told her "I'm not going to be using the account, and I don't feel like paying more fees".
She did not say no, but she might as well have.... She looked at me and said that in order for me to close my personal account, I had to talk to a banker, and the wait was 45 minutes at least. Of course she put the fake smile back on and said "Would you like me to schedule you?"
What? are you serious? You just closed the other account here, Why can't you do my other one?
Yes, I know the answer, nobody has to tell me, but boy it boils my blood.
Anyways, I'm going back to the bank today and finalizing this financial divorce.
This is the signs of the end of a system that doesn't work well for anyone, including those working at the banks.

Crazy to consider the things they getaway with but it has been because we have been used tk these services whereas we should seek alternatives like Crypto which is why adoption is so important for the future. I remember getting charged $5 a month for getting a paper statement instead of electronic (they did not disclose it) and also $8 a month for access to internet banking! It is completely ridiculous.
