You are right my friend, I too think the same as you as you do. But we can take that in a +ve way. Meanwhile, people are busy promoting crap content, we have the advantage to create good content and let the mass decide as this won't last for long. Fill your blog good content initially that after you have enough good content then invest money to promote content and bring it to the trending page.I am thinking of doing the same.
