WOULD YOU RATHER BE RICH...

Or just not really need money?

I think that far too many people these days get distracted with the "riches of this world." They simply hope to "get rich" one day, and basically day dream about that rather than modifying their lifestyle. What about you? Would you rather be rich, or just not really need money? Here are a few of my thoughts on the subject.

RICH? I'D RATHER JUST NOT NEED MONEY

REDUCE YOUR EXPENSES AND INCREASE YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE

If you've watched or read my stuff for a while now, you probably already know my answer. In fact, I am hard at work every day to try to move towards needing as little money as possible.

Part of my current lifestyle transition and main goal in life right now is to decrease the cost of living in order to increase the quality of life. The less money I need is the less money that I need to earn. In the end, it turns into more of my life that I get to enjoy rather than exchanging my time and effort for money to purchase things that we really don't need.

Rather than getting distracted by trying to "get rich," I think it is better to focus on reducing the cost of living, then you won't need to worry about getting rich! Those are just a few of my thoughts anyway. What are yours?

Until next time…

Excellent post and query. Yes I would rather not need money. I tend to think the less you have the more free you are. I think of that old Janis Joplin song line - Freedom's jut another word for nothing left to lose. Second I remember how the Bible speaks of the love of money and that it can prevent you from entering the kingdom of God. Well the things of this world are here for us on loan to us to enjoy, but we leave them all behind when we leave here. if the riches are going to prevent me from heaven and if I leave them when I leave, I do not need them. Heaven is more important than any earthly treasure. Blessings @papa-pepper

Second I remember how the Bible speaks of the love of money and that it can prevent you from entering the kingdom of God.

I agree! Those are sobering things to consider!

Good post and my answer is going in the same direction as you.
Rely more on life than getting rich and be miserable.
The way you live and conduct yourself can help achieve this goal.
Simple life.
Homestead life.
Keep on steemin'

Preach on @papa-pepper in most cases from your broke friends and family to the government it's not an income problem it's an expenditure problem.
I see far too many people ordering-in food, taking taxi cabs, buying junk, and wasting money. If you pack your lunch a few times a week you will save a thousand dollars of after-tax money per year. Buying things on credit is even worse.

Wow! Very well said! Excellent points!

I wouldn’t mind living in a way where money is no object. I believe you have to practice abundance everyday and set good habits. Thanks for the share!

Thanks for adding in a few thoughts!

Most folks spend their lives in hot pursuit of legal tender, and die having never lived.

Yeah, I want to make a life, not a living.

Impossible for me

Most people want more money than their peers. It’s all relative!!

I agree with you. Hell, I am the guy who gave up a 100k programing job to move to Japan and become a photographer. Money has never mattered to me. About the only things I even buy these days are food (and beer). I suppose clothes and things for my kids, but as for me personally I want very little.

Great move! Life is much more than things.

That is the exact reason I starting looking into homesteading. I kept thinking to myself that I was being middled by the city lifestyle. After years of paying for firewood to be shipped in to my place I started just going to the trees. Wasn't long before I realized that I'd just rather live nearer to the forest than domino's.

Same here! With some land and freedom you can do a lot more to cut costs in my opinion.

for me rich is not the most, the important thing to live happily with family and also enough to eat everyday it is very good.
rich question is the number two for me, the important life happy @papa-pepper.

That was amazing and I agreed with you because nowadays, many earn so little and spends high, and at the end they are still there, picking from hand to mouth without saving anything. It will be better for us to earn higher but spend little. Thanks for sharing

My answer is definitionally different then yours.

To me, being rich is a state of mind, as opposed to having a poor state of mind.

The rich drive around in a Toyota.
The poor (who make a lot of money) lease a new BMW or such.

The rich invest in things that will give them a good return.
Automatic watering for the garden. Good investment.
Rental property that you rent out. Good investment.

The poor blow their money on whatever they think will make them feel better.
Great big huge McMansion. Poor investment. And sucks tons of money in mortgage, cleaning, heating, lighting...
Starbuken McMocha's and fast food every day. Poor investment. Not only is it bleeding you dry now, it is robbing you of your health.

So, i would rather be rich.
The amount of money really isn't that big of a deal.

Nice example! I recently saw an illustration of a "poor" man who had no money but about $500+ worth of clothing on and a "rich man" who had money wearing less than $100 worth of clothes. I wonder why the one did not have any money!

If it's your desire, may you be able to reduce your expenses to the point that any money you use is to do charity works! And may you earn enough to do those works that move you!

the point that any money you use is to do charity works!

Well said @inphiknit! What a wonderful idea!

I'm sure it's your idea, I'm just giving a supporting nudge^^

to me I guess it is a trade off, if I am rich there will likely be upkeep to keep the foturne in good standing BUT I'd be able to help a lot of folk. but if I didn't need money no real upkeep just simple life but can only really help those who are right in your vicinity

I think there is such a negative view of money, but money itself is agnostic, the dilemma lies within the hands of the holder.

Great mindset. I'd much rather not need money.

Besides...I'm already rich. I have an amazing wife, a roof over me, food in my stomach, and clothes on my back. All of which is much more valuable than green cotton paper. What more do I need?

I have a friend who wants to be a billionaire but he just dreams about it, doesn't do any hard work to fulfil his dream! I always tell him to work, looks like it's my duty to give him reminder! I don't think he will be able to do anything. that's very sad for me too.

I would absolutely, without a doubt, love to be free from money. What a dream!

We will see! LOL - Thanks for dropping by!

I enjoy the satisfaction of your life choices you share with us here. It's great to see examples of happy, successful living not based on money.
"Things" are great to have, but they come with a cost. Too many people don't consider the time and expense of maintaining all their stuff. Some to the point of resentment.
"Find something you love to do and you never have to work a day in your life", has always been a favorite of mine. (There is no one specific to attribute this quote to)

I agree with you. I used to live with my parents, working and went eat out almost everyday to meet up with friends. It's fun but hadn't really cared what I was spending or earning. Now, currently I'm in new place and need to budget myself, I realized how I can live with only what we really need. And I enjoy it with home cooking, seeing how we saved the end of the months too!

While I’m not entirely poor I’m not rich either. Fact is I don’t require a lot to get by and still find some kind of enjoyment out of life. I have no desire for cutting edge of whatever plastic shell of item they are willing to dough out to people.

I could be doing far greater to have finical freedom but that something that is a very slow road. I never see myself being a full on homesteader either.

I much rather work hard, stay within my means when able and earn whatever I get to have in this life. Far too many just want it handed to them and think the world owes them everything. While there are many things I want in life I’m far fine going without. I rather not be in never-ending debt like many find themselves in.

I know some rich people who make truck loads more then I ever could imagine. They seem to always be in finical trouble and despite all the fancy things they wear and drive. They seem to be far more miserable than I ever was.

For whatever reason society seems to glorify being rich and famous. I would rather just have a nice quite little area to myself one day paid in full. Life seems to be more fun when money is not a burden taking that away.

I have a lot to say about this...but for now, let me say it takes discipline, self-contentment, discernment and a whole thankful attitude to make money never an issue. I am a work in progress myself about this, but rest assured I'm working on never needing money anymore - not because I already have lots, but because I already have what I and my family need. 🙂

Nice! Glad to hear it.

Great philosophy! I hope some day I can live off the land and not worry about how I'm gonna pay the rent!

I almost didn't recognize you (with your new avatar!) Thanks man!

Ha ha... you thought I was an impostor!

Just like money is needed to live in life, as well as its proper use.

Everyone wants money in this life especially me, I need money so I'll be able to change the life's of people. I just don't want to keep motivating people with words I wanna be able to do that with cash. Lol
I really love your articles that I had to mention you in my recent post. Keep steeming

Yeah, funny that income vs outflow thing. I have know a couple people who made 200K a year and spent 199K. Wealth and money are not the same thing.

Ouch!

If your outflow exceeds your income then your upkeep will be your downfall!

You've made a remarkable statement in this post @papa-pepper, I hope a lot of us take cognizance of this......

"Part of my current lifestyle transition and main goal in life right now is to decrease the cost of living in order to increase the quality of life."

Another serious issue to this is that many people live under the pressure of impressing others, the urge to impress friends, relatives, their spouses, girlfriend, boyfriend, village people, colleagues etc has left many in the prison of debt. For some, debts that will take 5-10 years to pay off. We should learn to be contented while working for a better life, we should never be forced by others to exceed our capacity.

They won't be there to suffer the consequences afterwards!

I agree with you @papa-pepper. but it would be nice if we have the money but can be used as necessary. And we have to remember that MONEY IS NOT EVERYTHING.
AND NOT EVERYTHING CAN BE BUYED WITH MONEY.

I love this one @papa-pepper. We work really hard to get nothing. You are really blessed to be on the land. I just finished my mass produced school lunch and really think you are a very wealthy man even if your wealth is not measured in paper.

even if your wealth is not measured in paper.

Very good point! Thanks @mineopoly!

Either way you're going to end up working all day and having pressures to provide for your family.

I'd rather not need money @papa-pepper. That's like a far lasting solution as compared to being rich because one thing i discovered with us humans is we are greedy, being rich won't be rich enough, we would still want more or worse, we could lose all the money. So it's better we don't even need the money in the first place.
@dee-y over and out.

we are greedy, being rich won't be rich enough

Very, very good observation!

I think everyone needs money in this world, now what I would want is to have enough money to satisfy my needs, and perhaps have a little left over. Now in an ideal world you wouldn't need money but we are not there yet, and possibly not in the foreseeable future.

Right, enough to take care of the needs, and maybe enough to help some others too!

I love the hair style @papa-pepper. @papa-pepper always look unique.

LOL - Thanks man!

U'r Welcm Sir

I think there are good ideas that can lead one to a good profit, but even those winning ideas, they require a lot of work, nothing comes from overnight to easy, at least the durable is hard work and dedication. thanks for your post friend regards

I would rather not need money as well. Remember the times when people only bartered? Thats where I want to be. Trade food for food, items for items. no money needed to survive. Why is it that we need a government to depend on when we are all capable of doing things ourselves? And bonus, we would be eating real food, quality food. just my opinion.

Remember the times when people only bartered? Thats where I want to be.

I agree! I totally feel that!

I'd rather not be rich in money but rich in life experiences. Living life to the fullest and developing deep relationships holds more value than a pile of money. I don't want to be slogging away at a job for 12 hours a day to make money so I can be unhappy...

I don't want to be slogging away at a job for 12 hours a day to make money so I can be unhappy...

Amen to that! I tried it once, just wasn't my thing! LOL

A big question no doubt, I suppose it is all in what constitutes your personal state of happiness and hungers. Personally I do not push in either direction rather it is more of how it rolls out. In some respects you need and or want far less as you age, in other ways we need more, like when help with our daily lives warrant it. A great question, even on a Monday.

I get the question so I’ll answer saying the second option: not need money. Or not worry about money.

Also richness can be attained by being comfortable and not in need of anything. Healthy and happiness first. If you try not to compare yourself with others you’ll most likely always feel rich.

Living within your means is another way to feel rich and not worry about money. If you make 5 spend 3. If your friend spends 5 it doesn’t mean you’re poor he just makes 8 and spends 5 - same ratio as you.

The less we need to rely on money the better but it’s hard for some people to break free of the mentality that you don’t need to be rich to be rich.

Living within your means is another way to feel rich and not worry about money.

Very good point. Too bad they don't teach young people that!

DEFINITELY not need money.
It's a goal we have been working toward for a long time. Its a tricky one though. There are a certain amount of things you will always need money for. You can cut it down though, to a very small amount.
I really hope to get there one day. Would love for my husband to not have to work 50-60 hours a week, plus two hrs a day driving time... It sucks.

Would love for my husband to not have to work 50-60 hours a week, plus two hrs a day driving time... It sucks.

I feel you. That used to be my life for quite a while.

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1 Timothy 6:9

Okay wtf, how'd you read my mind?!
Yesterday night at 11 PM itself, I had set my priorities straight and decided that no more will I spend more than 2 hours on Steemit, and that instead, I'll start studying for my Uni exams that are in June.

This was a lovely coincidence that you post this in the morning as a gentle reminder of what I had decided on. Hahaha! Great work papa-pepper. ;)

That's what I'll say. All my relatives died already at a fairly young age ... I saw how they fought and tried to earn a lot of money and buy a lot of unnecessary things. I analyzed all this. and now I know that it is important to be able to do something yourself, be able to make the necessary and enjoy life, because everything is very fleeting ...

Hi @papa-pepper, I love this question you posed.
My answer to this is quite lengthy but I am going to put it in a short comment.
Money is the route to all evil, it courses jealousy anger greed and fear. I would rather live to my means and live life to the full.

Me and my wife try not to borrow as this is just a downward spiral, we only get things that we can afford.

We are not rich, we buy supermarket own branded food and even get clothes from charity shops.

we have a takeaway once a month as a treat but only if we can afford it, our kids come first and we do without.

We did in the past do the opposite, were money drove us, we would want the best tv, best car and buy takeaways nearly every day.

So if I had the chance to be rich or to be happy, I would choose to be happy and broke.

I wake every morning as the happiest man on the planet, I have 3 amazing kids and a loving wife and we treat each other like royalty.

This was my direction of travel a year ago. Unfortunately steemit has rather side-tracked me the past few months. Time to get back on the right tracks.

I would like to $1,000,000 to give away, ease the pain of others, to propogate the only Good News to mankind. The Gospel of Jesus Christ. If I had a million or three, personally I have what I need and I am truly happy and fulfilled. Great thoughts @papa-pepper.
