Hey guys, the title of today's video is "You could be making $500 per day doing this but I bet you won't!"
This hustle is kind of outside the box. It's basically buying a costume off Ali Express and being a street performer in a big city or tourist area. Basically taking pictures with tourists and kids for tips.
If you've been to Time Square or The Las Vegas Strip or Freemont Street you've probably seen these guys. You may have thought they were homeless or didn't make much money. In reality some of them are making upwards of $200,000 per year cash money.
Watch the video to learn more. If you want to see the costumes featured in this video on Ali Express I'll post links below...
That was a good bet you made! You couldn't pay me enough to do this in Times Square at least. Maybe it's different in Vegas and other places. There is a constant skirmish going on in Times Square between these guys, the tourists, the locals and the police. I work around 4 blocks from there and I give it as wide a berth as possible. I hate to say it, but I have heard so many stories about the 'characters' (ones who dress as superheroes, etc.) being really aggressive towards tourists, grabbing people who take pictures of them without paying and demanding money before they'll let them go, going up to people and hassling them to take photos, getting into brawls with other characters and with tourists, etc. I've had them get in my face when I was walking near there and the area's already so congested that you can feel really trapped. And on the other side of the coin (coin, get it? We're on Steemit, eh?) performers complain about constant harassment by the police and 'false complaints' from tourists. NYC ended up passing a regulation where these character people have to remain inside a designated area in Times Square and can be ticketed for soliciting outside it (but plenty of them just ignore that.) The ones who follow the rules have to share the area with these topless women called desnudas who also try to take pictures for money and the characters complain this scares away families with kids.
I'd like to go along with the story of the noble side hustle and in the case of many, many talented street performers I would say more power to 'em (I've heard world class musicians playing for money in Washington Square and watched dance troupes and comedians there and near Bethesda Fountain) but the Times Square characters are the exception as far as I'm concerned. Well, them and loud musicians who start playing on a packed subway car then demand money from their captive audience when everyone's tired and just trying to get home.
Just yesterday a local headline stated, "Times Square Costumed Character Complaints on the Rise Amid Drop in Arrests."
Maybe selling the costumes on Ali Express could be the side hustle?

Yeah there's a lot of opportunity to make money in vegas. I got one buddy that runs around supplying the shops on the strip with whatever teh hot product of the day is. i have another buddy who was helping tourists get setup with their medical marijuana cards before they legalized it there. i have another buddy making bank off a hello kitty store. definately a lot of opportunity in that city

I'm just catching up on your stuff. I really liked this video when you came out with it on YouTube. It certainly got me thinking. I also had a friend I was watching the NBA finals with and his mom was in a way making fun of the guys that would go and wipe the sweat off the floor during the basketball game. She was like "I would never do that." I was like, "I would if I was paid enough." Plus he gets front row seats!
You have to be willing to do things that other people are not willing to do. Like spend 24/7 on Steemit!

You weren't lyin' when you said "outside of the box." This is really niche and niches are wassup. My niece and nephew were born in Vegas and my family goes to Vegas often just for kicks. Freemont street has been thru a major transition and the performers are growing ea month for sure.

Having been born and raised in NYC , I can agree that Times Square, as well as Union Square, and Washington Park have tons of what we call Street Performers . In NYC you'll see many who even make a living by doing this. Everything from classical music, dancers, and singers of all types, to those paid by companies to dress in a certain role can be seen. It's much rarer to see here in Texas. Interesting article, one that I'd bet many haven't ever thought could be a source of income, or seen in person.

Yeah definately needs to be in an area with a lot of foot traffic and even better a tourist area since people on vacation spend money on stupid stuff because they are on vacation.
I'm in Chicago so I thought the perfect area would somewhere on MIchigan Avenue, maybe outside the build a bear store or American Girl Doll store. Get all the families on vacation comming out and the kid says hey I want a picture with XYZ character.
