The Best Legitimate Ways to Earn Money from Home
Many of these won’t earn you a full-time paycheck, but it’s totally possible that combining a few of your favorites will.
Earning money online takes as much dedication as a job but you can use your talents and skills wisely to get a decent paycheck.
There are several apps and websites dedicated to helping you find people interested in your services or willing to pay for your talents.
This list offers several of them, so let’s get started!
Earn Money Several Ways with Swagbucks
Swagbucks is such a good way to earn some money online, which is probably why so many internet users sign up for it.
Play games, watch videos, earn cash back on purchases, take surveys, use the paid search function, and more.
You can trade in your SBs for tons of prizes, including $25 to $250 PayPal cash!
I currently use Swagbucks and recommend it to everyone. It’s the simplest way to earn cash for stuff you already do online. Just remember to check Swagbucks first before you do any online shopping so you can earn cash back!
Sign up if you live in the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, or Australia and you’re at least 13 years old.
Join Swagbucks now or read our full review.
Let Nielsen Track Your Data
Nielsen pays you to track your data using its app on your smartphone or computer.
It isn’t as invasive as it seems. Nielsen simply wants to know what people are searching and how easily they find what they’re looking for to help improve the internet experience.
You can also sign up for another program through Nielsen that lets you scan your items’ barcodes when you shop so it can get a better idea of what people shop for.
Take Some Surveys
You may already be a member of survey websites and wonder if they’re really worth your time. The short answer? Yes, they are, but you have to make good use of them and use only the best ones.
MySurvey and Vindale Research (review) are two that I highly recommend. MySurvey has paid out over $32 million to its members each year and Vindale Research pays you up to $50 per survey or focus group!
There’s tons of opportunities to make money with each one. Join MySurvey if you live in the USA (16+) or Canada (14+). Vindale Research is open to residents of the USA, UK, Canada, or Australia, age 18 and over.
Here’s a huge list of online survey companies.
Let InboxDollars Pay You to Watch Videos and Play Games
InboxDollars is much like Swagbucks in that it lets you make money in tons of different ways. But, some of my personal favorites that InboxDollars has to offer is the ability to make some money from games and watching videos.
Sign up for InboxDollars and get $5 in your account for free! Then watch videos, play games, read e-mails, take surveys, or complete cash offers to earn more. You can also refer your friends to have your earnings add up fast!
Cash out when you reach $30 in your account.

Take Pictures on Your Smartphone
You can sell your smartphone pictures to people who want to use them in blog posts, websites, or social media posts.
Foap is a good app to start with, and it’s available for iOS and Android. Upload the photos you want to sell and earn 50% of the profits. You can sell them multiple times too! Check out our full review.
You can also sell your photos online, but you’ll need something better than your smartphone. Stock image sites like Shutterstock and iStockPhoto will pay you some good money for high-quality stock images.

Peer Zone pays you to search the web – really!
Use your internet as usual and Peer Zone runs in the background, monitoring a website’s performance as you browse.

You get paid via PayPal, and each verdict pays about $5 to $10, depending on length of the case.
Mystery Shop
Mystery shopping is a very popular way to make money. Believe it or not, you can even make money from mystery shopping without ever setting foot in a store.
This is known as telephone mystery shopping. It requires you to make phone calls to companies acting as a consumer and rating your experience based on the customer service you received.
Intelicheck is one such company that offers a completely flexible schedule. Your calls last just a few minutes and most mystery shoppers make between $9 and $14 per hour.
Here is a list of more telephone mystery shopping jobs.
Sponsored Tweets
Get paid to tweet! Sponsored Tweets connects influencers on Twitter with brands who want to get their messages reached by the masses.
Depending on your number of followers, you could be making a few dollars per tweet! The best part is that most of the tweets are already pre-written – you just have to post them.
Buy and Sell Your Books
Do you have a bunch of old textbooks you don’t need anymore? Use Bookscouter to search different vendors and find out which one will pay you the most for your books.
Alternatively, you can always turn in your textbooks and regular books to Amazon, which will give you an Amazon credit for what your books are worth!
Sell Some Clothes
You can sell your gently used clothes online, which sure beats trying to sell them in a yard sale for pennies!
Swap is super easy to sell through. Just send a box of gently used clothes (that are all laundered, of course!) and set your prices. You can get your money through PayPal every two weeks.
ThredUp is a bit pickier, as it only allows certain name brands, but you can make a little better money if you have a bunch of high-end clothes to sell.
Design T-Shirts
If you like dabbling in designs or funny sayings, you can try your hand at designing t-shirts and getting paid a portion of the profits for your designs.

Some similar websites are:

You know that ‘Free’ section on Craigslist? You can always browse that section to score some free stuff that people are giving away.

With Chegg, you can even provide homework help via its iOS or Android app.

FreeCarMedia pays you up to $400 per month, depending on the advertiser and its rates, to place advertisements on your car, like a mobile billboard. Just note that your car will be completely wrapped.
Use Bing Instead of Google
Google seems to be the most popular search engine, but it doesn’t pay you to use it. Maybe it’s time to switch to Bing, which you can earn money from just by searching the internet!
Simply sign into your Microsoft account, search with Bing, and earn points, which you can trade for a variety of rewards and gift cards.
Provide Awesome Customer Service
As more businesses use the internet to get their work done, they’re also outsourcing their customer service teams to remote workers just like you.
If you love providing customer service to people, now is the best time to get started with a work at home career in customer service. Most of these jobs will require you to have some flexibility in your schedule, but still provide something different than the typical 9 to 5 job.

More and more writers are making a living from freelance writing. They pitch ideas to websites or online magazines or use freelance marketplaces to find new clients to write for. Digital marketing is huge and marketers need excellent writers to build their content.
I recommend testing the waters first with a freelance marketplace like Upwork or Guru. You’ll learn about some of the things marketers look for and get some experience under your belt. Then, move on to pitching some of your favorite websites!

Set your prices, create custom packages and add-ons, and even set yourself on vacation mode if you’re going to be away for a few days.
Blogging
Do you know why blogging is becoming so popular? Because it can make ridiculous amounts of money!
Blogging is no longer just for sharing personal diary posts for the web to see. It’s now one of the most profitable forms of marketing. People make money by posting sponsored blog posts, affiliate links, and advertisements on their blogs.
A sponsored blog post is a paid post that usually focuses on a particular brand, product, or service. A company pays for the blogger to write a review or add some of its links.
Affiliate links are links to product or services that give the blogger a commission when someone purchases the product or service using their links.
Advertisements, of course, are what you see when you visit the majority of websites nowadays. They come in the form of banners, full-page landing advertisements, videos, and more.
You can get started with a WordPress.com blog for free, or set up your own WordPress.org blog using your own website host. SiteGround is a good host that works well with WordPress and offers some excellent packages.
Get into the Sharing Economy
Use the internet to rent out part of your home! It’s never been easier to become a landlord and make some extra money, thanks to the internet.
The sharing economy – where people get paid to share products, vehicles, experiences, and even homes – is growing every day. Airbnb has become an extremely popular way for people to make some extra money off unused parts of their home.
Sign up and offer some of your space to travelers. It’s free to list and Airbnb even provides coverage in case any damage occurs to your home.
Rent Your Car
Renting out your car can work the same way as renting out your home! Uber is widely known for its ability to make you money by driving passengers in your car or just renting out your car when you’re not using it. You set up everything through the website or app.
Similar websites:
• Turo
• Getaround
• Lyft
You can also list your car at HyreCar for people to use with Uber and Lyft!
Find and Share Coupons
CouponChief provides coupons for tons of online and offline brands.
It also pays you to share the coupons you find so it can update its huge database! You get credited 2% of the sales from your coupons, so it can turn into some great passive income.

This one’s a little different but if you love tattoos, maybe it’s the perfect way for you to earn some cash.
Use LeaseYourBody to find advertisers who want to use your body to advertise their companies! Don’t worry, it’s just a temporary tattoo!
    Make an eBook for Kindle
Did you know that you can write an eBook fairly easily (well, if you have good writing skills, of course!) and you don’t have to go through the hoops and hurdles you do for print copies?
You can write books for Amazon’s Kindle and generate a passive income! Several big-time bloggers have started doing this and are making awesome money.
You’ll be self-publishing your book, so no need to pay for an editor and publisher, which means more money in your pocket. Just make sure that you have a good social media or blog following so you can market your book once you’re done!
    Be Someone’s Virtual Assistant
Virtual assisting is one of the best jobs for people who want to earn an income online. Aside from being fairly flexible in scheduling, these jobs also provide assistants with the ability to do a range of tasks on any given day, so it doesn’t get boring!
You may be doing anything from data entry to managing social media channels to setting appointments for a client, all in one day.
Fancy Hands provides a lot of flexibility, with short tasks that you can squeeze into your schedule. Read our full review here.
Lifebushido is another popular company that matches assistants to clients in need of help. Read our Lifebushido review.
Want more companies to choose from? Here’s a full list of virtual assistant jobs!
    Complete Microjobs
Amazon mTurk is a leader in this category, allowing you to complete super short tasks for a few cents to a few dollars whenever you’re able to work. Most tasks are data entry-type tasks, but some also require some research using the internet.
You can also try Microworkers and Clickworker, which provide similar types of tasks.
    Sell Logos
99Designs is a marketplace that matches freelance designers with clients who need logos designed for their businesses or websites.
A client will post a request and designers can create their best logos. If the designer chooses yours, you get paid for it! If clients really love your stuff, they can also choose to work with you directly.
    Use Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is all about enticing people to buy products or services through your links. You might see this on blogs quite often. A blogger suggests a book that’s helped her learn a skill she’s talking about in a blog post, and links to the book on Amazon. If you click on the link and purchase the book, the blogger gets a small commission.
Of course, you’ll need a good blog or social media following to really make it work. If you get really good at affiliate marketing, you can rake in some great passive income. This post explains how to make Amazon affiliate marketing work for you.
Here are some great affiliate marketing networks to start with:
    • Share-A-Sale
    • Commission Junction
    • LinkShare
    CPA Marketing
CPA Marketing, or Cost-Per-Action Marketing, is somewhat similar to affiliate marketing in the way it works, but not quite. Rather than trying to get someone to purchase a product or service, you try to get them to complete an action, like signing up for an email list or registering for a website.
The best way to start is by signing up with a CPA network and connecting with some advertisers that make sense for your blog. Obviously, you want something related to your topics or it won’t make any sense to promote it!
PeerFly is one of the most popular, with tons of big-name affiliates and offers to choose from.
    Sell Your Files
If you have digital stuff you want to sell, like videos, books, or music, there are a few websites that will let you earn money from them.
PayLoadz lets you sell an unlimited number of your items so you can get a pretty good passive income here.
Or, create your own virtual storefront on Sellfy to sell anything from designs to WordPress themes to eBooks.
    Create Viral Videos
This one will take some skill, but if you have some comedy skill or the knack for editing videos in a way that makes them stand out, this could be for you.
Many people don’t realize that you can make money from YouTube videos but YouTube does have built-in advertisements in videos that pay creators. The more views your videos get, the more you can make.
This article explains how you can make money with your videos.
    Create and Flip Websites
Some people make websites simply to flip them later. Yes, like you’d renovate a home to flip it for a profit!
It takes some time to build up a website to create a good profit, but once you do, you can turn around and sell it for thousands of dollars! The more income your website generates each month, the more you can usually sell it for.
Flippa is the best place to go about flipping your website for a profit.
    Sell Unwanted Stuff
If you’re not looking to get stuck in a job but just want to earn some extra money online, sell some of your unwanted stuff on eBay or Amazon.
I’ve done both and they’re both great for different things. Amazon tends to bring more views to your products, but your items need to exactly match the listing you’re selling it under. Since there are so many sellers, it might take a while to get sold.
eBay is good for selling used things and stuff that could sell for a high price tag in an auction.
If you’re looking for something new and different, check out this list of sites like eBay.
    Find Homes to Clean
I’ve said it before: the internet has made it so easy to find just about anything you could want for jobs and income!
Housekeeper and Care.com match housekeepers with people in their neighborhoods who need their homes cleaned. No more posting flyers or placing ads in the newspaper; you can find customers easily on these websites.
    Freelance
More and more 9 to 5ers are switching over to freelancing. Why? Because freelancing offers a lot of flexibility and the chance to do something you love, all from the comfort of your home.
You can become a freelance writer, editor, programmer, designer; you name it, and there’s probably a way you can turn it into a freelancing career.
These freelance marketplaces will help connect you to clients in need of your services, and they’re great places to get started to help you build a portfolio:
    • Upwork
    • Guru
    • Freelancer (Review)
    • PeoplePerHour (Review)
    Sell Your Designs
Love designing logos, stationery, websites, brochures, or something else? DesignCrowd is the place for you.
Browse jobs in several categories, send in your designs, and get paid when yours is chosen. Clients can also work directly with you if they love your work.
    Drop Ship
The web has made it possible for entrepreneurs to create awesome products to sell without ever needing to carry inventory! Welcome to the world of drop shipping.
Amazon is probably the most well-known for this. You can send your items to Amazon and it takes care of tracking and storing your inventory and shipping your products once sold.
Zazzle is also a great place for you to create everything from t-shirts to wall art. Simply design your products with Zazzle, it takes care of packaging and shipping, and you reap the profits.
    Resell Domains
Just like you can “flip” websites, you can do the same for domain names. Popular domain names can sell for big money.
Try using Flippa to sell domain names or sign up to become a domain name reseller for free on ResellersPanel.
    Create a Forum
About a decade ago, online forums were huge. Just about everyone was either making one or joined one. Back then, they were mostly just for fun. Now, you can profit off one!
Forums can make you money through advertising, locked forums that only paid members have access to, or using a marketing tactic like VigLink to make money from links.
If you set up your forum so it’s part of your website, you can earn even more through ads from the traffic driven to your forum by your website!
BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin that lets you create a forum right on your WordPress blog. If you’d like a separate one, or don’t have a WordPress blog, try the free forum creator, ForumMotion.
    Sell Your Locks
It seems that you can sell just about anything online these days! You can even cut your hair for a profit on HairSellon!
Your cut hair has to be in good condition and at least six inches long.
    Test Websites
If you have a clear speaking voice and know how to get around a website, you could get paid to test websites.
Website owners want to know what normal people think of their websites: what you love or what can improve. That’s where you come in.
Most testing websites pay you about $10 for a 10 to 20-minute test. You’ll need to download a screen recorder that tracks your activity on the website and you’ll narrate all your thoughts as you complete specific instructions.
UserTesting is one of the most popular website testing services, paying $10 for tests that typically take about 20 minutes. Enroll is another company that lets you take tests on your computer or smartphone.
Visit this list of companies that pay you to test websites!
    Sell Gold or Silver Jewelry
If you have some real gold or silver jewelry that you no longer need, you can try to sell it online to earn some money!
Kitco pays for gold, silver, platinum, and rhodium products according to the current exchange rate. You can always check what your stuff is worth and come back a different time to see if the price increases.
    Find People to Guide
Sharing experiences is one of the newest additions to the sharing economy. When you travel, you want to have some awesome local experiences, right?
That’s where you, as a local, can earn some money. Create experiences for travelers in your area and earn some supplemental income. You can do this with Airbnb, in addition to renting your house space, but Vayable focuses solely on paid experiences.
    Sell Your Electronics
Used electronics can be some of the most profitable things to sell online, so long as they’re still working properly and not super old. There are quite a few websites that focus solely on selling electronics:
    • Gazelle
    • NextWorth
    • Usell
    Cook
If you love cooking, think outside the box to make some money with your hobby online!
If you’ve ever visited food blogs, you know creating recipes and blogging about them is an awesome way to start earning money through blogging. You can also create your own cookbooks to sell on Amazon by self-publishing for Kindle.
Or, create YouTube videos to demonstrate some of your best baking or cooking skills.
Then again, you can always add another sharing economy gig to your repertoire! EatWith lets you connect with others who want an awesome dining experience, so you can cook for them in your home and get paid!
    Provide Tech Support
Much like customer service jobs, tech support jobs are becoming popular work from home positions. You’ll definitely need some skills and expertise for these jobs, but they can give you a good income.
PlumChoice offers remote computer repair solutions and hires people to work from home to provide services.
You can also check out Experts Exhange. Get paid to write tutorials or answer questions on a variety of techie subjects.
    Re-Write Product Descriptions
Have you ever visited a product listing on Amazon with a less-than-impressive product description? Do you think you have what it takes to write a description that could sell more products?
Try reaching out to sellers to offer your description writing services. You never know who may bite, and you can earn a decent income doing so.
    Revenue Share
