Prepare For New Plastic Notes 15/9/2017

Hello Steemian how annoying we've only just got used to the new £5 notes and now we need to think about replacing our tenners.
I really feel bad for those who have money stored somewhere and need to start replacing especially the old.

So the new tenners have hit the banks yesterday and become a legal tender on September 14 there are 275 million notes already waiting to be released mainly in these areas..
-London
-Manchester
-Birmingham
-Leeds
-Hull
-Cardiff

These were among the first to be stocked with them.

What are the £10 notes main features?

Ok so on the front below the see-through window is a silver foil patch.
So now when the note is tilted you should see the word "Ten" change into "Pounds" and some form of multi-coloured rainbow effect.

Also for those working in retail if you look at the front of the note under a good quality ultra-violet light which some stores force you to use the number 10 appears in bright red and green but the background should remain dull in contrast.

What is the new £10 note made of?

What you really want to know right because of the drama, well the new £10 will be made of polymer same as the fiver, its said that this note will last two and a half times longer than the current 10s but still said that these plastic notes are more environmentally friendly.

  • A 8% lower carbon footprint

However I hate to say that unfortunately the new note will still contain the traces of animal fat but the Bank of England is reportedly looking into ways to make its notes tallow free.
Lets see shall we....

Who is on the note?

Apparently the the first woman to ever be featured on a British bank note, and well yes obviously apart from the Queen....
It features an image of Jane Austen.
Who?
Well the note is said to recognise her "universal appeal and enduring contribution to English literature".

Jane Austen is therefore an author and they are marking her 200 years since her death back in 1817.
The actual picture of Austen was drawn by her nephew much later in 1870.

The building?

Oh yes the building is the Winchester Cathedral where Austen is buried
The note also comes with an interesting quote from Jane saying..
"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!"

I think that is a pretty good quote and have to agree with her, on with the note it also features an image of Godmersham Park House
Which is the estate owned by Jane Austen's brother.

Size?

To put it simply the note will be infact 15% smaller than the £10s we have now but still larger luckily than the new £5 available now.

Fun Fact
The polymer note will be the first British bank note to offer tactile information for the blind or those who are partially sighted.
Indeed useful.

Can I still use my old £10 notes?

With 800 million £10 notes in circulation still available at 70,000 cash points the old version will still be accepted for a few months yet and thank goodness.
But on actual dates, well the old £10 notes will go out of circulation around spring next year 2018 banks and businesses will gradually be removing the old notes before that date so watch out for that.

But if you want to get things sorted now anyone with old £10 notes can get them exchanged at the Bank of England.

So whatever next £20 notes in 2020 and then plastic coins???
