Getting the Current Operation In MongoDBsteemCreated with Sketch.

Check out the solution in the video MongoDB: Current Op. As we know with databases and transactions, we will sometimes want to get what is currently executing. We can see that we can obtain this information by using this query to get the current operations. Note the fields that return and the scenarios that we may see where we'll want more information.

Some points worth exploring in the video:

  • When we run the current operations query and we see opid what is this value and what does this value tell us?
  • What does the field active tell us about the current operation?
  • What does the field op mean and how can we use this?
  • What operations are suggested to become familiar with as we use this query in MongoDB?
I suggest exploring this ahead of time before you experience issues, as you'll be familiar with it before an event occurs where it may be useful to know.

Automating ETL

One thing I hear from people in the tech community from time to time: "according to the documents, this should be easy to run and yet there's all these hidden complexities about how this works." The truth is that this is true for everything (think of cars). When we sit down to buy a car, we don't know the possible issues that we can have with a car. Thus, we should understand that we'll run into issues from time to time with anything. Prevention is always cheaper than cure.
