Buffalo at the Buffaloland Park In Black And White

Buffalo in Sepia overtones

There are a total of 58 buffalo in the park. The little one will stay the orange color until older and then the fur turns to the chocolate brown of the adults. The hump on the baby’s back develops much later.

The Buffalo herd started with a male and female given to PEI by the government of Alberta, Canada in 1973.

At one time the herd was culled to keep it under control and the meat was sold. Since the Buddhists women took over care of the herd they do not cull but sterile the males

So why is there a calf in the field?

I guess the gentle buffalo is crafty and one male managed to escaped sterilization. I’’m happy he did as it is so nice to see the baby in the field.

Location: Prince Edward Island, Canada

Thanks @trendotoken! Appreciate the tokens.

Thanks so much @axeman and @photostreem. Haha, good definition- animal street photography.

I love the first photo, the fence posts in the back make for a nice complement to the natural forms of the buffalo. And yes, there must always be babies!

@redheadpei awesome creatures, they should let nature be nature and let them breed and the ones they do not want, let them roam free as they should be. It is odd to me that the babies are orange what in nature is orange for them to hide in?

Thanks @myjob! The Island does not have enough open land mass, like the prairies, for the buffalo to roam freely.

The adult buffalo are very protective of the calves. They will circle around him to keep him safe.

@redheadpei I guess they are like any other animal when it comes to the young, they are not much different than humans when it comes to kids and family. It is to bad they do not have room for them to run free.

Thanks for the list of topics for each day of the week. It is handy to have some inspiration for posts. Your buffalos are very interesting. We do not have them here in Australia.

You are welcome, Angie. the buffalo are not native to PEI neither but were brought here as a gift. They seem to thrive here.

Hmm, this photo gives some history vibes...is it just me? :P

And maybe they imported the calf from somewhere else...you need new ones to give the place a little bit more life!

Hi @lilacse. I usually like to give a bit of history with my posts- if I know any.😊

The calf was born here. There are no other buffalo herds nearby.

Everyone gets a hoot out of the male escaping the castration. 😂

They look so happy and peaceful out there grazing in the field, too, just enjoying life.

Hi WW. They are a happy good natured bunch, @wwwiebe.

Lovely photo Jo!! It came out beautifully in black and white! Love them buffalo and they brought a smile to my face! 🙂 😁

Thanks Dee! I feel the same way when I see the buffalo. 😊 💕

You are welcome Jo! 💞

They are amazing creatures, aren't they? Great photo!

How cool to see a field of them and I love your edits

Great photos! Good luck in the contest!

Howdy redheadpei! Those guys look great with color or no color, those are really good. I thought they would want to grow the herd.

Nice monomad Buffalo at the Buffaloland Park photo.

Thanks @kamrunnahae! 😊
