Monsanto Looks For Judge To Rule Against $289 Million Glyphosate Verdict

Weeks ago, a jury in California found Monsanto guilty and ordered them to pay over $280 million in damages as a result of a lawsuit that was launched by Dewayne Johnson.

Johnson argued in the suit that Roundup had given him cancer and he isn't the only one making such claims, there are many other similar lawsuits pending against Monsanto.

Although the jury had seemingly delivered a winning verdict to those who are looking to have Monsanto be held accountable, it didn't mean that the fight was over.

Monsanto still had the opportunity to appeal and now they've asked for a judge to toss out that $289 million award that the court has ordered them to pay.

According to Monsanto, they say that the decision that the jury reached was insufficiently supported by evidence and they've submitted motions to try and have the decision reversed.

They've asked the judge who presided over the trial to either toss that verdict, reduce the penalty that they need to pay, or order a new trial.

Now, they need to wait until Oct 10th to hear more, when a scheduled hearing is supposed to take place to discuss the motions.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that Monsanto might appeal the decision, after all they've got plenty of resources available to them to maintain a legal battle for some time. Johnson on the other hand, alleges that he doesn't feel that he has much time left and it isn't clear whether or not he will see a penny of that award in his lifetime.

Regardless, there are still thousands of other similar lawsuits that Monsanto is facing. Are they going to be victorious against every single one of them?

Bayer has indicated that they plan to continue fighting the claims being made against glyphosate, enduring the legal battles that they essentially inherited with their acquisition of Monsanto. Reports suggest that they have remained relatively unfazed by the mounting lawsuits against Monsanto.

This reminds me so much of the big tobacco companies who fought lawsuits sometime back. I am sure they'll try to bribe their way and to getting their form of Justice. It may or may not work but eventually it will not work. There are too many lawsuits against Monsanto and Truth must prevail Justice must be served. Thank you for sharing my friend

Large companies when they fall into a demand of this kind do not want to assume their responsibility, always want to cover everything as if nothing happens, and the real thing is that their products affect people.

That justice prevails

The “people” on the board of directors there should have to bathe in the products they peddle to prove show that they believe their own b.s.

Monsanto is literally one of the worst companies in the world and their products give people cancer. Yet they continue to use their profits to fight in the legal system to never take any responsibility for their toxic products. They suck!
