Monster Hunter Weapon #7 : Lance

in monsterhunter •  7 years ago

Lances are long weapons that you can poke and stab at things from a long distance. It's always used together with a shield which is great because you can block majority of attacks with it. It's a really heavy weapon and a lot of new players tend to stray away from it because of how difficult it is to move and travel with. But don't underestimate the power of this weapon. Lances are one of the only weapons in the game that can attack and block at the SAME time!

Overall they have very high Sharpness since you have to stab and poke things. They also come with lots of elements which makes them suitable against many foes. They're not as good as the Sword & Shield or the Dual Blades however.
While you're wielding the lance you can perform small back hops and side slides. combined with your stabbing/blocking combo you can evade and block almost all attacks.

Lances can perform a charging attack that costs stamina (not to be confused with a charged attack like a Great Sword or Hammer). Charging attack is basically you're running straight ahead with the spear up. The charge is not really powerful but it's great because it can be combo into a powerful front stab which is the strongest single strike a lance can do.

An effective tactic is to knock the monster down then charge into it(aim at a joint, such as the wings, legs, stomach of a monster). Because you'll be running place dealing continuous damage then combo that into a powerful front stab!

Pros

  • Block & Stab counter technique allows the hunter to stop a monster's attack and deal damage back all at once.
  • Huge attack range.
  • Very good attack power.
  • Lances have very good defensive abilities
  • Very powerful Guard ability (can block big attacks too unlike the Sword & Shield)
  • Very high Sharpness

Cons

  • Very slow movement
  • Dodging is limited
  • Very small variety of attacks (poke poke poke)
  • clunky and awkward to wield. (takes time to get used to it)
