Making Monsters

My eldest son loves making up monsters. Sticks, stones, wire, a rope, a pillow... anything can be repurposed into a monster. @thingone names each monster that he creates and elaborates on their powers and appearance.

[Okay I may have been letting him read my collection of Dungeons & Dragons monster manuals LOL]

He made some monsters out of some glow-in-the-dark human skeleton pieces today, recombining them into some pretty creepy creatures! Not to worry, he said these all went extinct millions of years ago in the Jurassic period.

Other times he will create a creature in his imagination, describe it to me and ask me to draw it. Ferinstance, behold the finger-headed butt monster:

When a rubber strap broke off his swim goggles, he told me the broken strap was the goadalist monster. It has a tail, shoulders, wings and a beak. But no body. Can you draw it dad? Sure!

Such a lovely collaboration Carl. I hope it will continue to develop as he grows older ~ Keeping the inner child eternally young in both of you.

@thingone's eyes: absorbing everything in his world and reflecting the Universe. So beautiful. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

Let's hope he never stops making monster - I have lived a full life with lots of monster making and no day job. It's a good life.

That's awesome @carlgnash! I hope that visionary and creative streak stays with him for all his life... some of us are just into monsters; mine were mostly outdoor monsters at that age, created from broken tools in the shed that my dad could never quite bring himself to throw away.

Halloween must be fun at your house!
