Every year at Moogfest their is a special Engineer Workshop. This requires a special ticket with a special ticket price to go with it. It's a bit expensive ($1500.00) but you get to learn alongside Moog Engineers about analog synthesis and build your own unique synth. Last year members built an acid trip of a machine that was called the "Subharmonicon".

This year Moog released a video teaser of the Engineer Workshop synth. I've grabbed screenshots from the video so we can see the synth! It appears to be called, "Spectral Modulator" but of course that name could change. Have a look below...

From what I can tell it's going to be a modular vocoder synth. We can see clearly that there is a microphone plugged into the unit along with a number of sliders and knobs. It's the very bottom synth in the rack that you see in the photos.

Check out the video here to get a sound sample of this little guy.

While I haven't attended a Moogfest myself, I always enjoy seeing what they are experimenting with in anticipation of seeing new product lines come out to the general public. Personally, I'm not as thrilled about this years workshop synth as I was about last years Subharmonicon. I still hope that Moog is tweaking the Subharmonicon for an actual release but so far no official word from Moog on that one.
