USING YOUR MOONCUP: A GUIDE

in mooncup •  7 years ago  (edited)

This is my mooncup. I jumped on the bandwagon almost a year ago! I get my period around every 3 months for 8 days due to being on the pill and I have an extremely heavy flow😨 It takes some getting used to but it\"s one of the best products to help not only with those pesky periods but the environment!!

I love mine as-well because you can wear it for up to 12 hours at a time!!

For more information check out my "period poverty" post!!

Step 1: find your position

I prefer to squat down but some put a leg up on the toilet or just remain seated, whatever\"s comfortable for you and makes it the easiest. It also depends on the curve of your cervix and your body type in general so it might take some figuring out.

Step 2: fold your cup

There are two ways to do it, A "U" shape where you just simply fold the cup in half or into a "point" where you push one side down into the middle to form a "point"

Step 3: inserting this is such a faff, you will take a few attempts to get it right, the angle, it unfolding and how it feels inside (which should be nothing, you shouldn\"t feel it other than knowing it\"s there as it suction\"s to the cervix opening)

I usually squat down and insert with my arm round the front but some people insert from behind!

Step 4: stand up and give it a squeeze and a push to see if it\"s really in there! Once the moon cup is in it will open up and suction to the bottom of the cervix drawing the blood to it, hence the no leakage!

REMOVING IT:

Removing it feels very strange and awkward at first but, just pinch the bottom of the cup itself and pull gently, it will release the suction and be careful as it comes out it might "flop" around slightly and you don\"t want any spillages!
