When you first learn about Morality of Love, there may be some discomfort at first. The idea of loving others and being loved in return are anathema to many of us. After all, who would ever want to have to reciprocate in kind? To help get you through the initial discomfort, I will share with you some quotes that illustrate the basics of this ancient philosophy.
"Do you not feel that you are loved when people give you gifts?" -lines written by Emily Dickinson. There is no doubt that she was a very intuitive person. It didn't take her long to figure out that the greatest reward that we can receive from another human being is the gift of love. When we give others gifts that symbolize love, it is true love.
"The greatest treasure a person can have is another human being." - Victor Hugo. It is only in sharing ourselves with others that we find true fulfillment.
"You are what you eat." - Anonymous. When we give and receive from others, it becomes conditional. It becomes conditional, because it feels like love when you give, but not when you receive. Unconditional love is when you give without expectation or desire for something in return.
"Love does not know the difference between truth and falsity." - Albert Einstein. Love is the most powerful force on the planet. You can use this amazing force to transform your life. When we choose to walk in the direction of Love, it shows up as peace, joy and fulfillment in our lives.
"When love is not just an expression, but the basis for all actions, it is of great importance that the word be spoken out: Love is a verb, not a noun." - Maxwell Maltz. When you are loving others from a deep sense of truth, it's easy to connect with them on a much deeper level. You'll always know who you are talking to.
"If you would like to be loved you have to earn it. The more you struggle, the more you will get. Never forget that love never did anything for anybody before it was given." - Jim Rohn.
"To love someone is to respect them. Respect means treating them the way you would want to be treated. The most basic of human needs--food, shelter, clothing, education, health care, and safety--are provided for by love. Love gives you the strength to face up to the inevitable challenges of life and gives assurance that despite your imperfections, you can and will be successful." - Richard Carlson
"What we think of as love may be little more than an emotional charge, generated by early experiences. Love is the force that makes us willing to risk our lives for the well-being of others." - psychiatrist Dr. Mary E. Frye
