What is a ransomware attack?

One of the most effective cyberattacks are ransomware attacks. These ransomware attacks take over your computer and replace the operating system with the latest version of the Zeus or similar ransomware.

The virus infects the computers hard drive, encrypting all of the files on it and holding them hostage.It is currently located in seven countries, although it is suspected that the case was propagated by employees on the company's network and not maliciously received from the internet.

"The encrypted files are made up of videos, photos, Word documents, spreadsheets and other important files. The mass data wipe works by wiping the entire hard drive and replacing it with encrypted files. It took several days for us to recover all the data," confirmed a Goldman Sachs representative to CBC News.
