Moringa (Miracle Tree) Harvest

in moringa •  8 years ago  (edited)

Good afternoon, Steemians!

Thought I would share some pictures of my moringa harvest from earlier today (7/29/17) with you

Moringa is native to Asia and Africa but grows in the subtropics. It is often called "The Miracle Tree," not to be confused with the Miracle Fruit (totally different).

The two varieties I know of are the African and the Indian.
The Indian variety is able to "come back to life" after you prune it's stem almost all of the way down,
something that the African variety is unable to do.
Almost the entire plant of moringa is edible, from the leaves, to the stems, to the seed pods, and even the seeds are edible.

Moringa boasts the following pound per pound:
25 times more iron than spinach, 17 times more calcium than milk,
4 times more protein than eggs, .75 times more Vitamin C than oranges,
15 times more potassium than bananas, 10 times more vitamin A than carrots.
The list goes on!

It also contains the following vital nutrients:
Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B7, C, D, E and K as well as a ton of amino acids.

Thanks for stopping by, Steemians!

Awesome nutrition. So what do you do with it? Put in salad or cook?

I just eat the leaves lol. One day I might be interested in throwing the leaves in a smoothie or making bread with the powder. But for now, just leaves.

Very informative @vegansilverstack! Thanks for sharing

One of my favorite trees. Love the fresh leaves in smoothies, salads, soups, and stews. The seeds have a strange taste though.
