"Running Errands in the Rain" a lyric poem of loneliness

I took my list with me; getting milk, toothpaste
And bread; I don’t really like bread, but you
Wanted it.

I looked around in the store, expecting to
See you come around a corner or the end of an
Aisle, but you never did.

It seems like ages since I saw you last, yet the
Feel of your touch is still real to me.

At night,
I can still smell you on my sheets, even though
They’ve been washed.

It’s all in my mind, I know. I guess that is
Why I am out here now,
“Running Errands in the Rain”

When you were gone, the light went out of
My life just a little;
I had no impulses to go.

Indoors I stayed for days and days, and
My tears fell like the rain; raining in my
Heart;
Echoing in the emptiness left
By the hole where you once were.

I can still smell you on my sheets, even though
They’ve been washed.
It’s all in my mind, I know. I guess that is
Why I am out here now,
“Running Errands in the Rain”

The cloudy grayness seems to penetrate everything;
Making the world around me slow down,
Become groggy, dimly lit.

Maybe this is my “pity party” but
Right now, I can’t help it.

It seems like ages since I saw you last, yet the
Feel of your touch is still real to me.

Perhaps the sun will come out one day,
But until then, I can’t stop,
“Running Errands in the Rain”
