MORNING DEW: 02-11-2018

TOPIC: DAVID, THE MAN AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART

TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 16:1-3

The LORD told Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I’ve rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I’m sending you to Jesse from Bethlehem because I’ve chosen for myself one of his sons as king.” Samuel said, “How can I go? Saul will hear about this and kill me!” The LORD said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I’ve come to offer a sacrifice to the LORD.’ You are to invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I’ll show you what you are to do. You are to anoint for me the one I tell you.”

KING SAUL DISOBEYED GOD

God was not happy with the first king of Israel, Saul. He disobeyed God. He did things his own ways. He thought he was a king hence he could handle things his own ways. He over stepped on his boundaries. He crossed his limits. He crossed the red line.

"This message from the LORD came to Samuel:

“I regret that I made Saul king, because he has turned away from following me and has not carried out my commands.” Samuel was angry, and he cried out to the LORD all night." (1 Samuel 15:10-11).

God regretted for choosing Saul to be a king over His people. God wanted honest king not dishonest king. Saul was dishonest, disobedient king just like most Christians today. They lie, kill, destroy one another, steal, etc. Yet they offer huge offerings, tithes, thinking that God delights in such.

"Samuel said, “Does the LORD delight as much in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the LORD? Surely, to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay attention is better than the fat of rams." (1 Samuel 15:22).

THE NEED FOR A MAN AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART

Our obedience is what God desires not our filthy offerings. Saul lost his position as king, hence God wanted somebody He could trust. He wanted somebody who could stand for Him without any compromise. He wanted a honest person this time. God wanted a person after His own heart, with that He had nothing to fear.

God, therefore, sent Samuel the priest to go to Bethlehem, the home of Jesse, to anoint a young man who was carrying the heart of God.

This is a good lesson for us today. Most believers become proud carrying God's instructions, they claim they have more experience than others, therefore nobody can instruct them.

Some won't perform in the church. They claim they know much so they should allow the children do it. Some don't attend Bible studies because they claim it's for children. Any time you see a truant or "Mr. and madam know all" in the house of God, also expect an eviction and replacement, because God has no respecter of persons.

Instead of honour, dishonour will be the results. Instead of glory, shame will be the results. Instead of success, poverty will be the results.

Don't provoke God beloved. Don't override your limit. If it is His service, do it well.

We have limits but God has no limits, therefore be careful.

Prayer: Father, work on my attitude and deliver me, in Jesus' Name!

Amen!
