Xavi Hernandez, world champion in 2010 with Spain and former Barça player, was named World-2022 ambassador to Qatar by the local organizing committee on Sunday.
The 38-year-old midfielder is currently playing with Qatari club Al Sadd. "I've seen what football can do in communities in Qatar and across the region," Xavi said in a statement.
"Football has the power to bring people together, to dispel stereotypes and break down social barriers." Xavi has been playing for Barça for 17 years since 1998, winning eight Spanish league titles and four league titles.
With the Spanish team, he won the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 European Championships
