Moses in the Bible is the best example of what a benefactor and spiritual leader is, a prophet in the true sense of the word; a person who fought against the oppression and tyranny to which his nation, Israel, was subjected in the land of Egypt.
Moses had escaped from Egypt for the murder of an Egyptian who mistreated a Hebrew slave, and took refuge in Midian where he married, and with God's help, prospered, and had a family.
But it happened that the cry of the Hebrews reached God: "The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God" Exodus 2:23.
And so the Lord sent Moses to fulfill a spiritual mission, to free his people, Israel, from Pharaoh's tyranny. Moses could have chosen an easy and comfortable life in Midian with his family, but he chose to serve the Lord with his heart, and prepare himself for difficulties and challenges, the prophet was a god fearing person. With Moses a teaching was fulfilled: "My child, when you come to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for trials" Sirach 2:1.
And God appeared to Moses in a burning bush, when Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, and so Moses found himself before God and did not die.
With these words, the book of Exodus tells us of the meeting between God and Moses:
"When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, ´Moses! Moses!´
And Moses said, ´Here I am.´
´Do not come any closer,´ God said. ´Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.´ Then he said, ´I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.´ At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God." Exodus 3:4-6.
The prophet Moses is the best example in the old testament that people should not be carried away by the fear of men but by the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability) in their lives.
