A Different Kind of Day in Moshi

Today was one of those unexpected gems. The internet decided to take off in the morning, forcing me out into the streets of Moshi. It was a welcome change of pace for a few hours.

I started my day with a delicious, budget-friendly lunch and then embarked on a leisurely stroll through town. The lack of digital distractions allowed me to truly soak in the atmosphere and people-watch.

Back at the hostel, the internet miraculously returned, and I dove into a project I’ve been meaning to tackle: finding a free Nextcloud hosting provider. To my surprise, I actually found three! One offers 2GB, another 8GB, and the third… well, I’ve been using it ages ago without realizing it was here until I tried to register a new account. Now, I’m eager to explore these options and see if they meet my expectations.

I also had some interesting conversations today. I chatted with a young Chinese man and shared a meal with two others. While at the restaurant, I noticed something fascinating. A young woman was collecting leftover food and putting it in a paper bag. It’s a stark reminder of East Africa’s successful ban on plastic bags, a significant step towards environmental protection that many parts of the world, including Europe, haven’t managed to achieve. It’s inspiring to see Africa leading the way in this area. Additionally, the increasing number of electric motorbikes on the roads is another positive development.

I’ve attached a photo from a cafe I visited a few days ago. It’s a place I really enjoy.

Overall, it was a day filled with unexpected discoveries, interesting encounters, and a renewed appreciation for the simple pleasures of offline life.
