BECAUSE I DIDN’T WENT TO THE MOVIE THEATER WHEN WAS RELEASED IT!
But I watched yesterday night and got me thinking since then... I can say that I don’t know if I’m going to forget ever about this movie…
After this excuse I’ll start reviewing it and you can comment or we can debate or even you can do some critics about my point of view of the movie.
If you watched share your comments, if you didn’t, I 'll put spoilers but you can skip it.
HERE WE GO
In second place we have Javier Bardem filling the screen with every single appearance, he’s the second most important character and he just doesn’t fail
It will intimidate you transmitting the most mysterious and enigmatic character.
Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer what a duo they made for minutes.
These four actors are the heart of the film, playing with you however they want.
SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t watched… you might want to stop reading.. cause I’ll get deep into the movie.
What does the character of Javier represent?
I think that at this point it is quite clear that the character of Javier Bardem represents God a creator whose work ends up getting out of his hand and that he is always willing to forgive and start from scratch.
His office it’s the Eden’s garden.
The first visit to the house it’s Ed Harris that will be Adam, innocent men, a few scenes later we see a wound in the area of his ribs, and then appears Pfeiffer as Eve
This biblical history will not be complete without the prohibited fruit, which in the movie doesn’t have the form of an apple but a precious crystal that completely obsesses the character of Pfeiffer. Despite the insistence of Lawrence and Bardem to stay away from that the fragile boulder to shatter because of the couple of guests, leaving no choice to Bardem to close the doors of the Eden’s garden so nobody can’t get in.
The next to make an appearance without prior invitation are the characters of Brian and Domhnall Gleeson, who are here to interpret the children of Harris and Pfeiffer that will be Cain and Abel. Following what is seen in the biblical story, the double incorporation ends in tragedy, when one of the two brothers murders the other with a hit to the head as a result of envy and a confrontation with his father.
The visitors that arrive after the death of the Youngest son are the population of the earth after the original sin, which are constantly altering, damaging the balance that Life has imposed on the Earth. The same attitude of the settlers causes the plumbing to be uncovered, flooding the house... something we know of the Bible as the flood.
The chaos generated by the situation ends up turning into something positive for Bardem, which overcomes his writing mental block and ended up culminating his long-awaited creation (The Bible) His new book of poetry is finished and his wife, after several dialogues is pregnant, a fact that marks the mid-point of the script.
What does it mean the second invasion to the house?
After the book is launched, thousands of fans begin to arrive at “The House”. This is a representation of a new generation of believers, which eventually
Many took advantage of this fanaticism to commit monstrous crimes and enslave others.
What does the baby represent?
OK.. This scene it might be the most controversial. And I’m saying this cause in the fact that I’m Christian it was hard… Really hard to watch.
In the midst of horror, the character of Jennifer Lawrence gives birth to the one who, literally, is the Son of God, (leading to one of the most controversial scenes of Mother!) He decides to satisfy the cry of his faithful followers who ask to see the newborn the petition transforms into a horrifying moment... to later eat him… a clear analogy to the bread and wine that represent the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
This is probably the last biblical metaphor we find on the film.
Who does the character of Jennifer Lawrence represent and why she burned it all down?
The answer to this last and big question lies in the explanation that Darren Aronofsky (director) himself gives about his film. He states that 'Mother!' It is a story about Mother Nature -Lawrence- told through her eyes.
About the burning I think that got to be with the apocalypse eventually the Mother Nature loses the equilibrium and the only thing she got left it’s the destruction and dead.
And the house?
Simply as the planet earth destroyed by all the people who live in it.
The end
The creator (Bardem) extracts the essence of Life from his wife, who asks him that she was not enough. He replies that life itself is not enough, that it always looks for something different new to create and that's where the human beings destroyed everything they touched. But he does not lose hope that a new cycle, perhaps, the balance and harmony will last and the new visitors will respect the owners of the house and decide to collaborate, instead of simply taking everything they can, while they can.
MY RATING 4/5
RATED (R) please DON'T WATCH IT with kids around
DIRECTED BY: Darren Aronofsky
Mother! It’s a jewel that as time goes by will be better valued. Breaking, original, surprising, disturbing... It will take years to see something like that, if we see it. It's like they slap you in the face. It has caused controversy, but little by little it is being seen that it is a great movie. Maybe it's a matter of how stagnant the industry is right now, maybe not, the passage of time will tell. But it is clear that no one should miss this movie.
This is something only great directors such as Steven Spielberg, David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick and, without a doubt, Darren Aronofsky, who has demonstrated that he is something more than an eccentric director and that has made his position among the greats.
