Happy Mother's Day to all of you Super Heroes out there!

in mothers-day •  7 years ago

It has been one heck of a year for super heroes.

It has already been a great year for super heroes and more are on their way!

In the past 12 months, we have seen:

  • A watchable D.C. movie in Wonder Woman
  • A brand new and incredibly fun Spider-Man
  • An absolutely hilarious and action packed Thor movie
  • Julia Roberts taking her first crack at playing a super hero
  • The first blockbuster hit based on an African hero in Black Panther
  • The first movie that could possibly earn $2 billion in the latest installment of The Avengers franchise

Wait. What? Julia Roberts played a Super Hero?

Was she in one of the incredibly boring scenes in Justice League?

Did she not make the Joss Whedon cut?

No.

Earlier this year, Julia Roberts played the most powerful super hero ever...

A mother.

Specifically, Julia Roberts wonderfully portrayed Isabel Pullman in one of my favorite movies of all time: Wonder.

Best Wonder Woman of the year.

If you haven't seen it yet, stop reading this, grab a box of tissues, and treat yourself to a good old fashioned fairy-tale about super human strength, the power of kindness... and a mother.

One of the things I like best about recent super hero movies is that all of the good ones begin with an action sequence within the first ten minutes of the film. They seem to jump right into a catastrophe that can only be avoided with the help of some super powers. Wonder is no exception.

At just the 4 minute and 18 second mark, we know there is going to be a daunting challenge ahead for our heroes. A terrified little boy with a craniofacial deformity lies in his bed knowing he must face his greatest adversaries ever... ten year old children. Lamenting his impending doom he says, "I'm pretty much totally and completely petrified."

Would Black Panther, Spider-Man, or Thor be able to reach him in time and save him from his peril?

No need.

Why?

He has a mother. And mothers happen to be bestowed with the greatest superpower in the history of time.

What other hero can look into the eyes of a terrified child and fill them with strength, courage and confidence by uttering only four monosyllabic words...

It

will

be

fine.

If you don't believe me, check out the 6 minute mark of Wonder. If you do, you will see my favorite super hero of the year convincing that same terrified boy that he will be OK. You will also see him believe it. Then, over the next 90 minutes, you will see him live it. Then (if you are me) you will cry.

If you can't wait to see the entire movie, check out the 1:13 mark of this clip. I assure you that you will see one of the most amazing super powers ever!

You can keep your iron suits, leaping tall buildings in a single bound, spidey senses, magic hammers and super cool cat costumes. I'll take a mom's ability to convince any child that they are... "braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think"* any day.

Bullet proof bracelets are cool and all, but they are nothing compared to the protection a mother's reassuring words mean to a child.

Dr. Strange may be the Master of the Mystic Arts, but he has yet to learn the spell that transforms the words "it will be fine" into reality. And yet, somehow, every mother has.

Some mothers also know a few more "magic" words.

I know my mother has. When my father died when I was 9, my mother uttered that mighty spell. And it worked. Of course it did. Because she willed it to work.

I know my wife has. When my daughter did not feel she had the strength to stand on a stage and utter the line "Kippered smelt!" in an auditorium packed with parents and peers, Helen whispered the incantation and filled MJ with enough confidence to recite everyone's lines.

I know @karenb54 has. Heck she even found a way to make it work on a child whom she took in and treated as her own.

I know @mumofmany has. She uses that spell to make her children feel safe no matter what the challenges are.

I know @giantbear has. I know she used it on her own children... and all of the ones on steemit who she loves like her own.

I know @bdmomuae has. She uses them in between studying for her degree.

I know life @lifes-a-donut has. She raised @hotrod... who happens to be one of the coolest kids on this platform.

I know @dreemit has. Her daughter is brave enough to be seen in public with her mom at a Supernatural convention or two.

I know @accio has. Although, with a name like "accio" I have a feeling she knows as many spells as Hermione herself.

@runridefly may not technically be a mom, but I bet he swiped this page from the mother spell book.

@slowwalker's mom must know them. If you don't believe me, you can check out their adventures in his blog.

@surpassinggoogle's mom knew them for sure. How else did someone get a heart that big?

I could go on forever, but what fun is that?

Now it's your turn. What other mothers or motherly figures here on steemit (or the world in general) have mastered that essential motherly spell?

Who else can say "It will be fine" in such a way that it is impossible not to believe?

Please fill the comments below with shout outs to the Earth's Mightiest Heroes...

Mothers!

By the way, if a mother has cast this spell on you and it has not worked... wait for it. Some super powers take a little time to charge.

Mother's are the bravest and most amazing people I know. Mother' will always three for us, through the good times and the bad. They love us and support us when we are at our best and our worst. I think we often take for granted all that our mothers do for us throughout our lives. They should be thanked and treasured every day and not just the day we are told to do so.

I lost my mom 5 years ago and although I made sure to let her know all that I appreciated and admired about her, I often wish that I could have one more moment to tell her again just how much she meant to us and how I became the man I am today because of her. I told her in my thoughts this morning and I smile knowing that somehow she is hearing me and smiling back.

Thank you for putting moms in the spotlight. They are heroes. Frontline soldiers that give everything to protect their children. A wonderful post sir!

I am so sorry for your loss but you sound like you are in a very healthy place with it. It seems like yo knew the most important thing: appreciate while you have someone.

I bet she is smiling. You are a good man. Not only do you help your children and your children, you have jumped in and started helping people here.

Being a mother is one job in the world that comes with no offs. Sacrificing to the core, a mother does all to care and nurture her child. In history and literature too, we can find a number of instances where mother's love is deemed the purest of all. A truly selfless and unconditional love, which only a mother is capable of giving. And setting aside a day to honor this endearing figure in your life is essentially the unsaid need. And of course, Mother's Day is not about just celebrating the mothers, it has a deeper meaning which cherishes the foundation of all motherhood. All the women in your life who have nurtured you, whether it is your sister, step mother or even mother-in-law, all such motherly figures deserve to be celebrated on this day.

Best wishes for of all Super Hero Mom !

I love that you included all the women who have played an important role in your life!

Happy mothers day to you also :)
Indeed a mother is the strongest, smartest and the most lovable superhero on this Earth.
Growing up I always heard the statement that

Heaven lies under the feet of your mother

Such is the respect a mother has been given in my religion.

That is a beautiful saying!

Mothers are one of the most important people in our lives if not the most important, that we were able to grow up to become adults were entirely their making. To me I think women and mothers are very important people in one's life and I sure do cherish the ones around me and I often refer to my mother as a super woman haven cared for six children and given everyone of us equal love and protection. Happy Mother's day to her and every other mother and women out there.

Happy Mothers Day to all moms here in Steemit! I hope you have some good time with your kids and husband today!

It is amazing how the mothers words can be powerful and meaningful for children, the words make us to feel better even if difficult situation, I remember many times when I was young and at the point that it seemed that this is the most terrible thing there is no way out, but once hearing: Everything will be fine, just go to bed and we will think about it tomorrow. That really made its trick, we always got through those times and I remember when I went to bed I slept peacefully all night through because I knew my mum will take care of it. Nice post to mothers day, @hanshotfirst

Happy mother's day ... To all mother around the world ... If you have the opportunity of celebrating one ... Be grateful to them

For sure. Appreciate the ones you love every day. Tomorrow is never promised.

Actually the mother is a different person
That's not just your mother, she's a friend of yours too
We all love our mother
I am honored for all the mothers @hanshotfirst

So emotional really, I enjoyed every bit of your mother's story, but I couldn't help noticing you made it as a ulog post it's totally amazing

I promised Terry I would try and use that tag as much as possible. I LOVE the idea behind it. I hope this post fit with his vision.

Who can understand what a woman has to go through to be a mother?
She cannot detach any part of her life from fulfilling her maternal care and duties.
Labour pain is one of the worst pains in life. Mothers have to suffer through it to bring forth one of her own.
It’s a job that requires them to be on standby, 24/7 to fulfill unpredictable needs.
When the children are matured enough, they are often caught up with their studies or work.
They don’t do or say enough to convey their gratitude to their mothers.
Still, mothers continue their care and help without any expectation.
They do not seek any recognition or reward.
In a way, I feel Mother's Day is a misnomer.
Every day should be Mother's Day.
There’s nothing we can ever do that can express enough of our gratitude and thankfulness to them.
Love her, honor her, and show your gratitude and appreciation to her.
Please have a wonderful Mother's Day celebration.

That is what makes them super heroes. They never stop loving and nurturing no matter what the obstacle.

Mother is a great gift of God

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out here on steemit!

When my father died when I was 9, my mother uttered that mighty spell.

My Dad died some 6years ago. And I knew how it was cause my hero died but my super hero remained.

By the way, if a mother has cast this spell on you and it has not worked... wait for it. Some super powers take a little time to charge.

This makes a lot of sense to me and so I totally agree with you on this, in my culture they believe the future of a child is in the mother’s tongue.

Happy mother’s day my friend .

I am sorry for your loss but I am happy you had a strong person to help you through it.

Lol. Thank you, you are right. I think most mothers have the ability to create something magical with "it will be fine". We are all different and each face their own ups and downs, but at the end of the day, we try not to drown and stay strong for them - the children.

As for exams and studying and kids and house and Steemit and chores and dinners and homework and laundry...this is me the most part of my day ;) :

LOL! Funny... but I'm not buying it. I think you are far more put together than you even know.

Happy Mother's Day form the U.S.!

Happy Mother's Day sir @hanshotfirst. Mother's love is only the true love in the world and no evil power can defeat it. Why lord Voldmort can't defeat Harry Potter because Harry's Mother true love with him which is the most powerful thing in the world. I also love my mother most in the world.

I love the Harry Potter reference! Great example! Happy mother's day to your mother!

Moms are a standout amongst the most critical individuals in our lives if not the most essential, that we could grow up to end up grown-ups were completely their making. To me I think ladies and moms are big cheeses in a single's life and I beyond any doubt do love the ones around me and I frequently allude to my mom as a super lady safe house looked after four kids and given everybody of us parallel love and assurance. Cheerful Mother's day to her and each other mother and ladies out there.

Beautiful! I have been fortunate enough to be taken care of by not just one amazing mother but also the mothers of my friends. It's 10x the pampering and lecture. lol. But it's so awesome to see the different strengths and beauty of these women.

Sadly, one of my heroes passed away just recently. I originally wrote a post to mourn for the passing of my best friend's mother this week. I wanted to show my support to her family and I also wanted to celebrate the life she lived. I couldn't tell her that anymore so I wrote it here on steemit so it can be kept on the blockchain.

Kudos to all the mothers out there and thank you for being real heroes!!!!

I am sorry for your loss but I am happy you had a place o express your feelings.

Big thanks to steemit for such an amazing platform and community!

Happy Mother's Day to all moms in the world! You deserve all the love. 💕

I love my mother very much

To all mothers, every day should be a mother day. You give life and as kids we give you griff, forgive us for our shortcoming:)

Happy Mothers day

"mother" it's a lovely and sweet word. no one can love more than mother. every mother loves her child more than from her life. so we should take care of our mother properly. i love my mother ..i think you also love your mother that's why write todays post...please everybody love your mother

Mothers day may have a lot to say but I think Mother's Day should show a true respect to Mother Teresa because she has played a very important role for us and for this society. I think Mother Teresa is the life inspector of life because she thinks If everyone is devoted to the Lord, then living this life and every activity of this life is easy will be.

Dear Friends, @hanshotfirst I wish you a sincere greeting for mothers day, hope your mother and your family are healthy, plays an important role in every mother's society because a mother cherishes her child and she plays a very important role in the child's activities. Mother plays a big role for her child and I respect her sincerely respected to each mother.

Yes, mom is a cool superhero! I know that. Mom can be as silent as a ninja if her baby is asleep and needs to put it in the crib. Mother knows not only spells, but and the answer on every why. Mom knows how to cure broken knees and heart. Mom they are such a hero that doesn't require a reward.

Thank you @hanshotfirst.
Being a mother is my greatest achievement. Raising my beautiful children may be the hardest thing I ever do, but it is the most rewarding and enlightening experience. To see them thrive and be the best people they can be is truly magnificent. A mother’s love has no bounds.
I can only imagine the challenges your mother faced after your father passed, but she used her love and strength and succeeded in raising a wonderful person, and a fantastic father.

A mother's love has no bounds. Yep that sums it up right there.

Happy Mother's Day!

Wow this gave me goosebumps - what a wonderful tribute - if I read this I think 'Yes we as mothers sure are awesome' but once we are done reading we forget and just carry on the only way we know how - giving it all

Parents can be the greatest superheroes in our lives! I know my mum definitely is. Thanks for recommending this movie. I already felt a bit emotional from just watching this snippet so I'll have to get the tissue box ready for the whole movie. Cry baby as well right here haha.

i am really glad and happy to say that you are posting on the mother day it is a great day in my life we are thinking for us..
and for our moms..
we are not thinking for those childrens whose lost there moms aah

We should all keep in our hearts those people who have lost their heroes. Hopefully someone steps up to try an provide what a mother would.

You are very right sir

Motherhood is the toughest job in the world. Her job has no holidays or day offs yet she doesn’t grumble a thing about it. Her profession portrays unconditional love, selflessness and sacrifice. Therefore, I want you to relax and enjoy this day Even though a single day is not enough to honor you as our mom. Happy mothers’ day!

nice one

Well said!

Happy Mothers Day. Respect for all mothers, nothing to say about their contribution to their every child. No one can't define it using billion of words. God bless all of them.

I have never heard this Stevie Wonder quote before. Thanks for sharing.

My mum has been my hero is day one, a super woman in her own right, through thick and thing she was there... ever striving, ever smiling

The best superhero in the world my mom, just in case xD !

By the way, thanks for your recommendation , I'll add this movie too my list!

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers. I hope I can be one of that kind of mother. A wonder one. I am not sure. Although many see me as strong woman and mother. At times I doubted. But it is true no matter what deformity or congenital disease (such as my son) your child has, the mother will stood by her day and night to be his or her advocate. and I pray hard I will never lose heart. I shall watch the movie Wonder to be lifted up.

Thank you so much for sharing this. Lovely...

Happy mother's day to all the mother's in the whole world including my mum she is so special and unique may God bless our mother's and keep them for us Amen.

Wait, wait, wait, wait. What's that? Julia Roberts played a Superhero?

When I read this, I said to myself, "Am I lost?" definitely (since I'm a mom I've lost my love for cinema) I must resume my trips to the cinema

At just 4 minutes and 18 seconds, we know there is going to be a daunting challenge for our heroes. A terrified child with a craniofacial deformity lies in his bed knowing that he must face his greatest adversaries... ten-year-old children. Lamenting his imminent doom, he says, "I am utterly petrified.

Wow, I think my heart's gonna come out of my chest.
After reading I just want to run away and watch this movie, I love Julia and it promises to be a movie with a lot of feeling to transmit, moms have a special power, we not only give life, we also fight for the life of our children, happy day to the mothers of your family...
I take the opportunity to say that I have two great @mariae who gave the best of her to raise 5 children on her own besides being a brilliant woman and my sister @elestilodeunafea who the more obstacles she encountered, the more strength she had to move forward and today is a great mother and woman.

I hope you are able to watch it. It's great!

This was absolutely beautiful @hanshotfirst and I'm honored for the mention. (Particularly because mother's day is exceptionally difficult for me, my mother passed away in 2010 and well my child's father isn't a particularly pleasant fellow, my sister pretty much had to explain to her what mother's day is this week so little things really matter).

I would like to mention two of the best mom's ever, my absolute very best friends...

@seer and @howellogic

I don't want to get into personal information without consent but they're epic bad ass warrior mom's, trust me.

I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you have a good person to lean on in your sister. I bet she leans right back on you in return.

Happy Mother's Day!

My mother is a super woman too, because she has that magical words as well.

I decided not to watch the clip in order not to spoil the whole movie for me, I've watched Wonder Woman, now I need to go for wonder.

Mothers are beautiful, nothing can be compare to their love, support, care and sacrifices.

I love my mother, and I wish her a great celebration on a day like this.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mother on the earth, especially the super heroes....

What a beautiful post. Thank you!

No. Thank you!

Happy Mother's Day from the U.S.!

mothers are super heroine, they don't have a holiday or vacation, they are engaze 24/7 with several responsibiity!

Your post about mom's is awesome! I feel SO blessed to be a mom, and even grateful just being alive! You are already Hotrod's favorite. You being so good to him, always makes my day! I hope you and your wife have the best Mother's Day weekend ever with your kids. I appreciate you!

I am so happy you are here celebrating this Mother's Day!

Because of your awesome post my family is going to watch Wonder tonight. Thanks for the compliment @hanshotfirst. You're AWESOME!!!

I swear I won't tell anybody if you get a bit teary eyed.

Your mom seems like an incredibly cool lady and I truly think you are one of the few teenagers who actually appreciates what you have.

I do have one piece of advice for you, if you are ever having trouble making a decision, ask yourself 'What would make my mom proud." I promise you that you will always make the right choice if you do that. It may not seem like the coolest thing in the moment, but believe me, if you keep making your mom proud it will pay off HUGE for you when you are 25, 35, 45... and enjoying a successful life.

happy mother's day, interesting article.

Madre no solo es la que da vida, sino la que cria, un feliz dia a todas esas mujeres luchadoras que sin ellas, el mundo no tendría sentido; nuevamente un muy Feliz Día de las Madres

Being a mother is a great blessing and a great responsibility, a mother graduates as a nurse, teacher, cook, laundress, driver, in everything that allows her to meet the needs of her son, that's why they are also super heroes, my mother never He has forsaken me, excellent article. Congratulations and God bless you

Happy Mothers Day to all you super moms out there. 😍

Happy for all mothers

Wonderful post dear @hanshotfirst, I like for your wonderful school video and viral video.

Fortunately, a mother’s mettle is rarely put to the test by runaway cars. A more frequent challenge for moms is watching their kids rolling toward financial trouble. Mothers too often become the human “speed bumps” in such cases, putting their own resources between their children and bad credit or joblessness.

Certainly one of the best ways to honor moms this Mothers’ Day is to recognize their willingness to make such financial sacrifices, but at the same time, doing what is necessary to prevent them. It means asking moms to do both more and less for their kids: more financial education and empowerment; less sacrifice of their own financial well-being.

Hum I do think I just saw this exact same comment from you on another post

happy mothers day..mother is a best word in the world..you sharing very great thought tropic in your post.just very talented knowledge skils of you....thanks to sharing for your beautifull thought.. friend.. @hanshotfirst

Thanks for writing about this Great Day.

The belly is filling with life; to feel is to give it a special place in your heart every day, it is time to arrive! and you don't care what sex he will have, we always pray to ask the almighty to come healthy, but even the super heroes get to receive without thinking about beyond being healthy, just a gift and tuck him in for the rest of life, never look at their flaws, just love and love every day put on the suit of super mom.
