Converting creativity into productivity - from the eyes of a rock band!

Hey Steemit,

Yesterday we sat down and talked about improving our productivity since we were walking in circles lately. I want to share that conversation with your, because it had some valuable lessons for us.

Lately we would go down to our rehearsal/home studio room and just fool around with our instruments, play our original songs, have fun with some covers, check if someone has interesting ideas to work on and call it a day. We felt like we were not doing anything and we sat down to talk it trough. These are the steps we went trough:

Current tasks:

  • I recently had an idea for a logo which we gave to a graphic designer friend to build upon. We finally saw it for the first time and we are extremely happy. So here it is, the Animus Vox logo guys!

  • Time for the website now. Our website is already build but uses stock photos for placeholders. So we've put it in maintenance mode and wait for our photographer friend to return from a honey moon. It was a great wedding, by the way.

  • Working on our music. The big one. No explanation needed.

Check what you already have?

I can't believe we didn't do it earlier. Turns out we have 16 (almost ready, ready, worked on, or half-done) original ideas/songs. Sixteen! We wrote them down, had a listen and moved onto the next step.

Focus!

Obviously working on 16 songs at once wouldn't help with our desire to be more productive. So we sat down, chose our 5 best songs and decided to work on the first one. Work name "8-bit". Doesn't have anything to do with bits, but we like silly work names. We have ones like "Gigantic resonator" (named in honor of our drummer who likes to argue a lot) and "Hazelnuts".

Improve the workflow.

Recording real drums is hard work. In our place even more so. We have to move the set, re-mic it, isolate it and etc. etc. This was a killer, because if you want to hear your progress you need to make a record of it. Thus we decided to use MIDI for our personal demos and record drums only when we are doing the final recording. This will help immensely.

Also we've decided to stop playing cover songs, stop fooling around. Now when we go to our place, we will work on our music.

I hope our conversation, that was very valuable to me brings some value to you as well. If you want to follow us on FB, you can do so here - https://www.facebook.com/animusvoxband/
