Work For a Cause Not For Applause

When President Barack Obama gave his Inauguration speech, he said, "We will serve the people, and they will honor us," but many Americans still do not understand what the quote means. In fact, many were surprised to hear that a politician would say something so politically incorrect. However, when President Obama gave his speech, the media surely expected something quite different. Therefore, it is important to ask whether or not this statement means that all Americans should work for a cause not for applause.

There is no doubt that the President Obama intended his quotation to be interpreted literally. After all, the United States military was one of the greatest creations of our nation. Therefore, any time a politician says that they are grateful or proud of our military, that is a wise choice. But, what about when a politician tells the American people that we must work for a common cause? This is a different situation altogether.

If a politician says that they are grateful for the presence of the American people, what they really mean is; I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you. Unfortunately, there are politicians who believe that service only comes when someone else demands it. However, this is the reason that there are soldiers in the first place. Therefore, for a cause not for applause, a politician may say; Our military is a tremendous asset, and without them this great nation would not be as powerful as it is today.

Many have criticized President Obama for using the phrase; Our military is the greatest asset in the world, and thus I am grateful. After all, if the United States was to lose one of its major military forces, other countries would not feel as confident in their ability to compete in the free market, and therefore our global leadership would be at risk. However, President Obama was criticized for using this phrase, which is a bit more than he was criticized for. Instead, he was criticized for not saying; Our military is the most important asset in the world, and thus I am grateful for their service.

For a cause, not for applause. Live life to impress, not to impress. President Obama showed both these abilities during his two terms as President of the United States of America, but now that he has been re-elected he must prove both of these abilities or suffer the consequences of the popular vote loss.

President Obama was criticized again on February 21, 2012 for saying; "What I do know is that we cannot ignore the fact that right now, our national debt is out of control." While the press was trying to promote a debate about his first campaign expense, President Obama was attacking his opponent in a personal and bold manner. He was saying; "My job as President of the United States of America is not to simply win back the office, it is to bring our nation's fiscal house into respectability. And I intend to do that by fixing our national debt."

While many of his critics were quick to attack President Obama over this quote, his supporters were quick to praise his honesty, his intelligence, and his leadership. The obvious reason this quote means so much is because of its honesty. President Obama was stating the obvious, that is that if our nation is in terrible shape right now, that alone should tell us that we need to do something about it. And even though he may have gotten a lot of flack for saying so, he did say it. "We cannot ignore the fact that right now, our national debt is out of control," President Obama said during his victory speech last November.

In other words, I think the person who wrote this quote really understands what it means to me and millions of Americans when he says; "We cannot ignore the fact that right now, our national debt is out of control." Now that is just plain honest advice. It's time for us as a people to wake up and take responsibility for our economic future. I sincerely hope you will please consider all this and think on it. Let's talk.
