OK, so I was finally able to view this - yay! It played flawlessly on Busy, but it seems to have issues here for whatever reason.
Anyway, I feel exactly how you do about audiobooks. I tend to lean more toward fiction though, despite the fact that most of the books I've personally narrated -- which are on Audible ... I think almost all audiobooks nowadays are :p -- are non-fiction. Go figure. Non-fiction is just easier to narrate at this point for me and I'm so busy doing audiobook proofing for another narrator and editing books that I just don't have the time to jump fully into longer works of fiction.
I started regularly listening to them about 14-ish years ago and it's my favorite way to 'read' a book. I simply don't have time to sit down and read books so I finally realized that if I wanted to read it was either audiobooks or ... nothing. My son is dyslexic and he definitely prefers audio formats for stories as well but his bias is more for Graphic Audio types of books.
I love to plug into an audiobook when I'm doing mindless tasks. Though I certainly can't listen when I'm doing something that involves the same part of my brain that is being utilized when I'm listening to a book. And I've discovered to my dismay that I can sometimes get a bit too wrapped up in an audiobook when I'm driving; I have driven past a turn before, during a particularly climactic moment in a book (The Lincoln Lawyer in this case) so that was a bit sobering. ha!!
Despite my preference for fiction works though, I am currently listening to Jordan B. Peterson's 12 Rules book. It's pretty good. Quite long though!
Wow, being a narrator sounds like an awesome thing to do. Do you do a lot of it ? as in are you full time. Yeah I really do like audiobooks, they just fit in to my life perfectly although I still like to read as well . I found that when I just listened to audiobooks that my writing skills lapsed a bit.

Not a whole lot, but I do have several books out. I would like to record more but most of my time these days it spend proofing the audiobooks of another narrator, which is pretty fun. I also do book editing.
I think I know what you mean about your writing skills lapsing if you only listened to audiobooks. I think there's some sort of brain/body connection going on when physical reading happens (just like physical writing, as opposed to only using dictation software to 'write'). If that makes sense.
For instance, a writer I do edits for has dictated the series of books I've edited for him. But his other books in different series were hand-written (or typed). There is definitely a different 'sound' to his writing when his words have been dictated as opposed to physically written down.

Sounds like it keeps you busy. Yes I think keeping the manual side of things is important. That is an interesting point about the writing / dictation.

Definitely keeps me busy. I'm in the middle of two jobs right now that are taking almost all my time. I really shouldn't be on here atm, but I need to take breaks every so often or my head would explode! :p
I remember reading something a while back about the brain/body connection with regard to writing. I think it was geared toward the narrative that cursive was vital because of this important connection. However, it's not so much cursive itself that's the key. It's just physical writing in general. I think what gets frustrating for some authors (like the author I mentioned already) is the physical limitation of writing. After a while it creates a strain on the wrist which can be a big deal when you're trying to keep productivity high. :/

It is such a great opportunity on here though, I have found the time somehow.
Yeah I have mild carpel tunnel syndrome from woodcarving and that has slowed me up at times in the past.

Ohhh, yeah - gotta protect those wrists. Carpel tunnel is no fun. :/
And I'm still fairly new to the platform(s) here but it's interesting and I'm looking forward to spending more time here. Feels like a more supportive/friendly environment too, so far. Which is nice.
