Don't Do This...Do That! #1

in motivation •  5 years ago  (edited)

Over the years I have started taking in a lot of inspiration and advice from countless sources on how to make life a little better. Some advice is much more useful then others and sometimes sifting through all the junk is half the battle, and half the fun! So, in an effort to pass on the good advice and hopefully provide some slivers of motivation to the Steem community, I want to start this semi regular piece on things not to do, and the things you should be doing in their place. Enjoy!

Don’t hit the snooze button!

Believe it or not, hitting the snooze button is a terrible thing to do for yourself, and not just for the obvious reasons like making you late to work. The choice to hit snooze is the very first decision you make every day. When you succumb to the comfort of your bed and hit that snooze button for another 15 minutes you are subconsciously programming your brain to take the easier path when presented with a hard or otherwise uncomfortable choice.

It may seem like such a small action, but it has big consequences for the rest of your day. The first move you made in the morning was to admit defeat! When that alarm sounds, make the opposite choice. Swing your feet to the floor, get a good stretch or two and head on to what ever your morning routine might be. Your alarm is like a goal, or a promise to your self. By setting an alarm you are saying "this is when I need to get up to accomplish the things that lay ahead of me each day". Start your day off by accomplishing that goal and fulfilling that promise to yourself.

You may not realize it but this is a huge bump for your subconscious self esteem and puts you in the mood and mindset to conquer the day.

So, tomorrow morning don’t hit that snooze button, wake up with confidence and start your day right. If you still have trouble even when your'e conscious about making the choice to hit snooze, then try this: When your alarm sounds in the morning, turn it off, close your eyes and countdown from 5. When you get to one say in your head (or out loud!) blast off/get up/let’s go, something to give you that motivational jolt to get out of bed. I think you'll find that the countdown provides a small bit of motivation to jump start your brain and make the choice to succeed at waking up.

And that’s it! Don’t hit snooze and enjoy the rest of your day with confidence.
