How Journaling Can Help Us See More Clearly

It's possible that as adults, we've forgotten the teenage journal we kept.

What if all we needed to thrive and find emotional equilibrium in our lives today was writing?

Although keeping a journal is a custom connected to youth, there are so many advantages that we should continue this practice throughout adulthood.

Research on journaling in positive psychology has shown that confiding in oneself on paper can energise, inspire, and motivate oneself.

The author and speaker Christine Michaud says, "It can keep us from going into depressive states, help us understand ourselves better, learn to know ourselves, and become more intuitive."

But why do these advantages make sense? "We tell ourselves when we write or confide in a journal, and that alone helps.

Anyone who has seen a psychologist knows that in the first session, we are the ones who talk because the therapist's job is to listen to us and help us work through our issues.

Even still, we frequently think to ourselves as we depart, "Wow, that did me so much good!" Why? since we were given attention.

We tend to overlook the significance of being genuinely listened to, which is occasionally lacking in our society. And the diary can help us with that, she says.

There are as many different kinds of journals as there are people, ranging from the autobiographical personal journal to the thankfulness journal, the travel journal, or even the notepad.

Depending on our current needs and preferences, we can even design a personalised diary. Following our emotions is what matters most. "Ms. Michaud suggests starting with a subject, such as keeping a book to record humorous life coincidences or describing our dreams and the feelings associated with them.

We can create a journal in remembrance of a deceased or living someone, which can include sayings, images, life lessons they have imparted to us, and more."

Writing is not the only form of journaling. Another option is to keep a creative journal where you can doodle, paint, collage, and other art projects. Everything is conceivable! When you keep a creative notebook, a lot of your inner child emerges, the expert says.

Another method that American novelist Julia Cameron popularised is morning writing, which she claims helps unleash our creativity. Write down everything that occurs to mind for three pages in a journal every morning.

We liberate ourselves not just from worries and stressful thoughts but also from unimportant things like chores to do, calls to make, shopping to do, etc. Words or sentences could be used; it makes no difference.
