How to cooperate? Experts in conflict management and negotiation, founding partner, suggest linking cooperation qualities to childhood heroes. True inspiration for soft skills and cooperation.

There are three levels. Meeting is an example of connection. Cooperation requires this, but not enough. Collaboration on work organisation, job descriptions, and processes is the second stage. This is another required but insufficient requirement for cooperation. The third stage, cooperation, is more mental.

A group starts a project without a goal. Rather than a goal, it is a means. Cooperation improves work life and talents. In the preface of our book, former fighter pilot Hervé de Saint-Exupéry reminds us that collaboration is superficial but cooperation is deep. First gives direction, second gives purpose and perspective throughout time.

Many companies foster internal competition rather than cooperation. Cooperation requires more. It's not always easy to depend on each other and take risks to show solidarity and co-responsibility. Many try to persuade rather than cooperate. Employees must learn collaboration, which is not instinctive. Beware, this is not Care Bears! Conflict exists alongside cooperation.

Seven linked superpowers we've associated with super heroes/heroines: humility through Superman's history and personality, patience through Doctor Strange, resilience through Batman, tolerance that Black Panther sometimes lacks, authenticity through Spiderman's quest, courage through Wonder Woman, and wisdom through Hulk's ultra-complex character.

Think about two primary reasons for cooperation during a crisis.
Patience to step back. People must learn to manage time to adapt and make excellent judgements in a world of setbacks. Patience is crucial, time management critical.

And the humility we need now in uncertain times: knowing one's limits, daring to admit weaknesses even as a manager (humility gives Superman credit!), and recognising that failure is part of growth.

What will the cooperation be utilised for? The motivation for cooperation is crucial. It cannot be decreed, as some groups believe during big changes or reorganisations. Management must be committed, cooperate, and provide resources. Otherwise it frustrates.

Leadership fosters cooperation, management fosters collaboration. Respect for shared principles binds teams during challenges. Cooperation is plain sense and a return to simplicity.

A superhero-themed serious game teaches collaboration. It was supposed to be given in person. We redesigned everything for remote use. The results were impressive: participants listened better, didn't interrupt, and prepared well for the scenarios.

In one year, most employees have integrated Zoom and Teams for remote collaboration. However, collaborating in a hybrid meeting with in-person and virtual participants is difficult! Today, people want to unite, smile, and become one. Crisis (re)awakens consciences.
