Do Not Get Too Proud After The Successful Completion of a Phase in Your Life Because There are Still so Many Other Phases to Come, What Will Happen Then? Humility is a Virtue Of Greatness, so Get Humble.

There are certain stages of life that one will get too and definitely feel proud of it, then you will know that it is time to celebrate achievement and attainment of success.

The Usual Feeling We Get As We Pass Through Each Phase In Life.

If you will remember very well those times when we successfully completed our primary education, we were filled with excitement, we were so happy that we could get to such a height.

We expected that our parents should be very proud of us, it was really a great height to us. Thereafter we moved to secondary school, we came to the realization then that stage was just the very beginning for us and that was in a way an achievement for us.

We were so happy to have moved to another stage and all that we anticipated was the day we will finally get out of secondary school and become big boys or girls. To us, we felt that whenever we get out of secondary school it is the actualization of great dreams and steps in life.

Something even worse then happened when we got to the university, it was as if we were on top of the whole world, we were so glad to announce our admission to the university, before anyone even asks, we will tell them about our school and the level that we are and then the next thing that comes to our mind is the day of our convocation, that day when we will finally get out of school.

The Eye Opener.

Finally, we get out of the university and then our eyes get opened to the realization of joblessness in the country and then it begins to get into our brains that all that we have achieved does not make us the most important persons in the world.

Life Scenerio.

Personally, I do not think that any attainment in life should make you proud or feel on top of the world unnecessarily, what you take to be your greatest achievement might just be the least of achievement for your next door neighbor who does not even brag about it, so my question is, why the pride?

I once heard a story of a man who had gotten so many degrees to his name, but had no wife nor children, no car, and no house, he just kept on reading and he insulted every other person has been dumb, to him whosoever could not get high numbers of degrees is just "a very dump fellow, as he calls them".

He once had a student who was not really bright but tried all that he could to read and understand, but the more he tried, the more education looked more though for him. This lecturer of his, made things even more worse as he calls him dumb all the time.

This young man finally dropped out of school, because the lecturer had told him that nothing good could ever come out of him since he was just too dumb to understand what he was thought.
He decided to try his hands on business, and he started doing well at it, he was even happy that the old man had insulted him and that pushed him to find his niche.

The old lecturer was in serious trouble one day and he needed money to get out of it, the young man he used to call dumb back then, paid his bill and helped him out of the trouble he found himself in. The old man began to apologize but the young man just smiled and told him that his insult had made him a better person today so he had no reason for regret.

Why will you even get so proud that you begin to see someone else as being insignificant? there is a whole of things that some other people can offer that you cannot offer. There are so many skills and so many things that you cannot do alone and that is the more reason why each person is usually more comfortable with his or her own profession, so please stop getting too proud because you can give something that is especially skilled. Rather appreciate others for the things that they can offer as well.

The Next Phase.

Because, you are lucky enough to be the first person to graduate from the university in your family, every other person is not reasonable again?
Or just because you are lucky enough to help some people, you want them to become slaves to you forever, wake up my friend, the fact that you have achieved this particular phase in life does not make you a god, there are so many other achievements in life that will require humility, dedication and hard work.
If you really want to go far in life, you need to get humble.

You are so right. I think we all fall victim of such thinking of attainment at one point or the other as described in this post, but I believe we snap out of such thinking pattern differently and faster than each other. See! It is almost natural for someone to have the feeling of arrival when they have achieved a particular feet, this comes as a result of the goal for that phase. But maybe as part of what should be done to help in such situations as this is:

Creating a bigger goal out of the smaller one we are trying to achieve for that phase of life, that way, we will know we are just getting started even after attaining the small version.

Many of us here thought that leaving school with a good grade was all that matter. Fast forward to having those grades, we all started looking for jobs and most times we find the jobs thy don't even require the paper we carry about, calling certificates. I believe strongly that blowing out our goals in a bigger spectrum helps to limit the feeling of achievement when we achieve just little. Thanks for sharing this @gbenga

Thanks for sharing these true words.
Often times, people tend to forget that humility goes a long way in life. Some people just feel once they have achieved something that seems huge, they have arrived....forgetting that Life is a journey and not a destination.

It's high time we started helping and uplifting each other, because you got there ahead of me doesn't mean I can't get way ahead of you. Skills and luck can get one to the top, but character plays a major role in making one's relevance last.

If you find yourself in any blessed position, try as much as you can to help anybody you can to become better. Blessings from such people open doors to even higher grounds for you. Success is not always about how much we have, but how much we have been able to give, how much lives we have been able to touch.

Thanks for sharing once again @gbenga🙏 this serves as a reminder to us all.

It's all downhill from here!

Pride have always been an enemy to succeeding in life! The fact that people now only see having money as success is something we also have to look at especially in the African society! Helping others and not expecting them to bow to you is success!
The saying that 'pride goes before a fall' applies to all phases in life. You get too proud at a particular phase, you may drop back to the previous phase!

The feel that one has arrived and can now oppress others is really not a good idea if we want to also arrive at the next phase. Trust me! pride makes one too blind to see there is a next phase!

Humility is to make a right estimate of oneself.
Very informative article, you're performing a good job, thanks for sharing this @gbenga.

You are really saying the truth... There are many people in the society who have just passed one phase of life successfully and turn around to treat others like a piece of trash.. Some of them look down on the others and order them around just because they have helped them in one way or the other..
Virtually they are others that that disclose every single help they render to other people just to get praises from them.
They are some rich people too who wants you to bow at their feet before they can offer help....
What a world though...

Humility is everything in life.. stay humble and see yesterday’s achievements as grace of God.... not that others hasnt been trying... so when you think you have it as a platter of gold, stay humble.:. Someone has ones been in that position

@gbenga, thanks for sharing this post, it just serves as a reminder to me of the same information I got from one of the book I read recently.

As wise man must always have it in mind that the overcoming of a certain challenge is a graduation from such level of life and a promotion to another level and phase of challenges higher than the former.

Life is in phases, so when rejoicing on the success of a certain level of life, also prepare for another more difficult phase of life and it's challenges too.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING

Very well written ...

Very true saying @gbenga
Keep up the good work..

Truth!
We always gotta look forward! Life’s to short to look back! Even if it’s not a negative way of looking back!

Well said bro... Life is in stages. The fact that you attain one goal doesn't automatically make you a success and vice versa...

Most people get too carried away with their parents succes to the extent of loosing their sanity.

I once cell across a man who was shouting down over other person because he had a couple of millions in his account. I asked my self a simple question, if he is behaving like this then how should be Billionaires behave.

There is no achieving it all in life. There is always a stage ahead..

Thanks for sharing @gbenga

Finally, we get out of the university and then our eyes get opened to the realization of joblessness in the country

This part reminds me of what my coursemate in school do talk about.. According to him, is joblessness that makes a lot of people come to do higher degree after they graduate... That's why u see lots of young people taking msc as a pass time till they get a job.

If you really want to go far in life, you need to get humble

This is profound. You have brought a new touch to humility. Often times pepple consider themselves humble because they do not have the wherewithal. Now, you could have the means nut you have decided to keep your calm. They say, you never know who could be your helper in future. So treat all with self respect and dignity.

Thanks for sharing

All beginning also has ending, we just don't know the end. Nobody should be too proud of him/her self if you own today, tomorrow is not sure for anyone. Thank you @gbenga for this

Because, you are lucky enough to be the first person to graduate from the university in your family, every other person is not reasonable again?
Or just because you are lucky enough to help some people, you want them to become slaves to you forever, wake up my friend

This is well said spoken like a true African

This is true @gbenga. What happens where we get to a good stage defines us.

Mehn!!! This post strike really deep.
Why the pride?
Obviously, the proud and arrogant lecturer learnt his lessons.

Hmmm humility a necessary course for success and elevation a necessary course for salvation an epitome of nobility and make no mistake it's gonna hurt sometimes

Always sharing wise thoughts, like a poem said, he that is down needs fear no fall, he that is low no pride, he that is humble ever shall, have God to be his guide.

Humility is just the best act a man can ever possess....thanks for the reminder...
