The Guest

Personal growth is naturally an ongoing process. There is always an opportunity to look for ways to grow in areas that will lead to your success.

You need to focus on more than just accomplishment (which is still of course very important) and strive for a level of attainment - achieving your goals, mastering your craft and becoming the person capable of replicating success in all facets of your life.

Imagine that tomorrow from the moment you wake up, until the moment you go to sleep you have a guest accompanying you the whole day. What this guests job will be is to follow you around every moment you are awake. They will take in-depth notes about your schedule, how you interact with both your family and friends, how you engage in your tasks and your projects, and your mindset doing everything.

Once the day is over, the guest will leave and spend the next few days processing their observations, drawing their conclusions about your motivations, and compile their notes into a book about you which will act as the definitive record of your life and work.

How would you conduct yourself tomorrow, knowing that all your actions and your attitude on that one day were ultimately going to be the representative of your entire life?

Perhaps you would wake up a little earlier, give a little extra attention to your family in the morning, be a little more friendly with the barista in the coffee shop on the way to work, give your full attention in every meeting that day, be meticulous in every task you have to do, catch up with friends you haven’t spoken to in a while and generally just tie up any loose ends.

Now taking all this into account, how does your imagined behaviour compare with how you are actually living?

This kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident. This growth is a result of intentional effort and consistent process. You must define how you want to grow, then once you know how to, create a plan to help you get there.
