We are not lazy, Nigerian youths reply Buhari

I was disappointed and sad when I read and heard that a president of the federal republic of Nigeria saying “Nigeria youths are lazy”. Is it really the truths? I was forced to check the dictionary for the definition of lazy “unwilling to work or use energy” or idle,indolent,slothful,sluggish work-shy etc”
The Nigerian National Youth Policy (2009) defines youths as those between the ages of 18 - 35 years. (Contrary to the global trend, it excludes those 15 - 17!) Nigeria’s total population in 2016 was projected to be 193,392,517 (NpopC July 2017). Youth population was estimated at 61,306,413 or 31.7% of the total population. This is one of the highest percentages of youth in any country.

From this definition are Nigeria youths lazy? A country where you find it difficult to get job but trying hard to work with low income to survive. This are the same youths actively serving their country both in the Nigeria army and allied security agencies. He promised a lot for the youths when elected but failed to fulfill his promises after so many years as a president, and yet bold and confident to say these in just concluded commonwealth "At the Commonwealth Business Forum in London on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari gave a keynote address on Making Business Easier Between Commonwealth Countries. I don’t think the president’s comment on Nigerian youths is appropriate, even if he did not say all Nigerian youths, but referring to some, to me is wrong. If only he knew the youths survive and fend for their families, he would praise them. I advise him to withdraw that statement and apologise through his spokesmen. -Andrew Ediale, Seminarian

It sounds funny. The President should examine the rate of unemployment in the country first and what he has done to tackle this. Many of us are graduates and ready to work but the job is not forthcoming and we settled for various vocations.
