Who believes a few relaxation sessions or the Coué method can erase decades of tension or doubt? Trusting takes time and effort. My first therapist said that working on oneself was like peeling an onion: slowly, you remove one layer, then another, until you reach the heart (sometimes with tears).

Learning to love oneself more each day requires self-knowledge. One thing is certain: confidence is earned daily from inside, not acquired. Knowing one's history, retracing infancy, adolescence, and adulthood with the caring look of one who accepts and forgives oneself, is to love oneself more and integrate the very principle of life and who we are.

Light and shade, qualities and areas for improvement, kind and vicious impulses constitute us. Light comes from shadow. One cannot exist without the other. The Chinese see the Universe, including its Yin and Yang parts, without judgement to learn from each encounter. Every crisis can lead to repositioning. Each issue challenges us to think or act differently.

My coaching and personal development clients often come to me after years of treatment. They studied their personal history and understood the basics. They can then change the test by acting. First, we teach them heartwork. This can mean letting go of the mind to feel what one feels or pulling inspiration from the Four Toltec Agreements to stop making assumptions and live in the present.

Our major tool is intuition, which many clients request. It leads to self-confidence and a broader worldview. If we can identify intuition from the mind and trust it, it is accurate. World-class business leaders would tell you they made many decisions intuitively!

Tool #2: Explore your feelings to find your intuition. What happens if you close your eyes, take three deep inhales and exhales, and ask your issue to your belly rather than your head? The vibration your body emits is right because you cannot control it.

Self-care by seeing suitable therapists and professionals is good. Making every life issue a realistic scenario improves the exercise. Taking action helps you overcome worries and leave your comfort zone. A life can change. Action doesn't have to imply skydiving or family strife.

If life is a hurdle jumping course, you only need to jump 1.11m or 1.12m to overcome 1.10m obstacles, not 1.50m. Similar to climbing a mountain from the bottom: the shortest way is straight and steep. We find it insurmountable. This is why we sometimes never start. If we spend more time and take the twisting trekking trail, the effort will be less and more regular, and the route and encounters may be more pleasant and interesting.
