Talking about intentionality,
There is this guy I talk with sometimes. Met him in a bus and through the conversation, we exchanged numbers. I'm not much of a texter though but we talk sometimes.
Recently, he took interest in taking pictures . In one of my former posts, I posted his picture. Before I did that, I asked him to share his handle where he posts often. He told me he doesn't have any. I had a little talk with him, telling him how important it is in this age to have a portfolio. Somewhere someone can go to if he/she likes your work. Every creative is meant to have that.
We didn't speak again for some time, until another moment when he chatted me up, requesting I tell him what to do with his account. I said, "For every picture you post, write a touching caption. It could be abstract, motivational, a short experience you had that relates to the picture and so on. Then you advertise yourself".
Now this is his Instagram and Facebook page.
Intentionality!
There's one thing to want to do something. Have great goals to achieve and plans to get to achieving those goals. Then there is another. Being Intentional about them.
I was like that in the previous years. I didn't become serious all of a sudden and constantly had plans to write. I find it hard to post anything at all, even on my WhatsApp status (so bad for a writer), but 2022 was something else.
Maybe it's because it is my last year in school and I realized it's going to be me vs the world. Nobody to call to send you 200 naira credit. "You are a graduate now!" is what I'm going to be hearing.
I had fantastic goals, awesome steps, but it wasn't going to get me anywhere if I constantly tell someone about them and do nothing about it.
Be intentional!
For you to get to that point you've so desired and imagined, be intentional. Agree with your spirit, soul and mind, and say, "I'm doing this!"
I'm not trying to sound motivational or anything. This is what I've experienced and decided to share. Mind you, It's not going to be easy. Especially for those trying to form it as a habit.
Intentionality pays. Not only will it get you the attention you need, you'd also be happy at every little progress you make.
Don't wait for someone to tell you or give you a Ted talk million of times. Just do it. You'd be happy with your work.
