Why you should embrace change

Change is a scary thing. It's about leaving old habits, friends, jobs or places. When we leave, there is often no clear blueprint and no guarantees that things will turn out the way we want. But does that mean we should fear change due to these uncertainties? Absolutely not! Change is hugely important and necessary for many reasons. Let us look at the most important benefits of change;

Growth

For one, change allows us to grow. If we don't like our job for example, by quitting and finding another job, that process will allow us to grow. Between the person we were or the place we were at, to the person or place we want to be, a lot of growth will happen as we will learn about the things we like or dislike, as well as what we find challenging or easy. We will learn about ourselves as a result of these new experiences. If we hadn't decided to change, we would not have had the opportunity to see how much we can grow and in what ways.

Courage

Change can't happen without courage. Whatever changes we want in our lives, we first have to gather enough courage to follow it through. We leave the familiar, even if we don't like it, and venture into the unknown. Leaving our old ways, friends or place is a sign of courage. Not everyone has the courage to follow through with what they want or to overcome the obstacles that will come with it.

Open-mindness

Change allows us to be more open to different things in life. When we choose to change things we don't like, we will be confronted with new things. It's important to be open to different ideas or ways because unless we give them a chance, we'd never know how this could impact our lives or what lessons we could learn from it. By staying open minded, we can welcome different things that we wouldn't normally be exposed to.

Opportunities

Yes, this is one of the best parts of change! The moment you decide to change, the more opportunities that will present themselves to you. These will allow you to pursue or materialize those changes you want to implement. If you remain as you are, those opportunities would be there, but you would not be able to recognize them. Why? Because you have to first change your mindset and attitude, and once you do that, your perspective, focus and energy will change.

Embrace change!

Many of us stay in unfulfilling jobs, relationships or cities/countries because we are afraid of what might be. If you are unhappy in your current situation, you have the power to do something about it. For example, if you have a friend who is negative, uses people or simply doesn't have the same values or vision as you, don't be afraid to part ways. You don't have to hate them or tell them to get lost. All you have to do is slowly decrease how much you communicate with them until they get the message. If they don't, explain to them that you like and respect them, but that you have changed and no longer see common grounds between the two of you.

If it's a job, you can explain the same to your boss because you deserve better than to stay in something you don't like or find fulfilling. If it's a city or country, don't behave like you are in prison. The world is BIG and there are so many places where you can increase your chances of being happy, finding yourself or focusing on the things you want to focus on. In other words, you are not glued to any place or to anyone. Don't tie yourself down and live a mediocre life or worse, live for others.
