It is usual for adolescents to deny any similarity to their parents, whether or not the resemblance is obvious.
When we reach adulthood, our genetics begin to fully manifest themselves, and the degree to which we resemble one another becomes increasingly obvious.
A woman will start to resemble her mother around the age of 33, while a guy will start to emulate his father around the age of 34, as found in a study that was carried out in the United Kingdom by Dr. Julian De Silva of the Centre for Facial Cosmetic Surgery.
According to the expert, this realisation takes place with the turn of the thirties, which is also the time when the period of defiance towards a parent of the same sex comes to an end for good. The explanation for this is quite straightforward: becoming a parent tends to shake up one's beliefs.
More over half of the women who were interviewed for this study claimed that they had begun to adopt behaviours and attitudes extremely similar to those of their mother from the age of 33 onward. The percentage of women who reported this was 52%.
They also realised that throughout this time period, they had formed a shared preference for the same television shows, enjoyed the same activities, and utilised the same idiomatic idioms.
Men experience the same thing, but it takes them an extra year to do so. When a guy reaches the age of 34, which is the average age at which he has his first child, he will generally adopt the same political goals as his father. He will also develop the same interests as his father.
In either scenario, it seems that the behavioural parallels are more pronounced the more the physical features that are shared. To put it another way, the more we become aware of the fact that we physically resemble the parent who shares the same sex with us, the more likely it is that we will behave in the same manner.
Dr. De Silva conducted a poll with a total of 2000 people, half of whom were male and the other half were female, to arrive at these findings. He believes that everyone will, at some point in their lives, resemble either their mother or their father.
This is an example of a natural occurrence that deserves to be honoured. The discovery of these parallels provides a fresh viewpoint that enables us to have a deeper appreciation for the individuals who were responsible for giving us life.
