The Equality and Equal Opportunity

The theory of equality of man has gained acceptability world wide. The question is are we really equal? Do we have equal opportunity?
In this post, I will try to present the facts and reality before us, and also challenge us to make adjustment in the system where possible to either achieve equality, enjoy equal opportunity or use the available opportunity to our advantage. Generally put we are all equal no matter our race, religion or tribe. But certain factors seem to argue this fact and present a different picture to us but right inside judging from the very nakedness of man to the dust of man we are so very equal.

The First question: Are we really equal? usually comes out whenever there is injustice, where some people feel cheated. Most times the privileged ones take undue advantage of others either enrich themselves or to place themselves in more favourable condition. A Story comes to mind with the quote:"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" A proclamation by the pigs who control the government in the novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell. The sentence is a comment on the hypocrisy of governments that proclaim the absolute equality of their citizens but give power and privileges to a small elite. This seems to be the order of the day,especially describing those in power and the ordinary citizen today. The people in power are practically above the law. They can hand twist the law and the system with their position and influence. While the ordinary man faces the law squarely even with smallest error.
Well, the answer, to the question whether we are equal is Yes! we are to the People in Power/Rich and No! we are not to the ordinary citizen. Well, still placing the Equality Challenge. Can we now say that all those in Power are equal while the Ordinary citizens are not equal?
Walking down the lane, the issue of inequality transcend down the line. Starting from the family, the father claims superiority to mother, First born to others and so on. It however, seem factual from the foregoing that there is nothing like equality in terms of privileges and position. Some say, perhaps that is why all fingers are not equal. So it is appropriate to tow the line of the Animal Farm quote. In deed Some Animal are more equal, in other ways some humans are more equals than others. In all, we pray and work to achieve that atmosphere where it can be applied that all individual, all human have equal life right.

The second question: Do we all have equal opportunity? This is close to perhaps true viewing from an angle that we all are born the same way. conceived same and have same body members, two hands, two legs etc. Though this can be argued in that, while some are born naturally others are not, the upbringing again play a vital role, exposure to life and so on. But using generality yardstick, it can be said that we all have equal opportunity to life.

Usually, what poses the different is the ways we use the opportunity present to us. Mr A and B can both be given say the sum of $500,000.00 for instance, while Mr A invest his in business, Mr B can choose to buy exotic car and spend it all without any investment. Before long inequality sets in when Mr A becomes a Rich man while Mr B becomes poor. So in reality we all have equal opportunity in life.

From the foregoing, the inequality set in terms of reasoning, the choices we make, exposure to life, our attitude to work and life generally and also believe. It is therefore important we make good use of any opportunity that comes to us. A man of vision sees opportunity in every challenge and failure, while a lazy man sees work and excuses in any challenge. Opportunity comes sometimes in the form of misfortune or temporary defeat.
According to Thomas Edison, "opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
Seize the moment because some opportunities dont come twice. Dont miss your opportunity, utilize it well and you will not see inequality.
