We live in a world where people are constantly trying to improve themselves, and it's an understandable trait for most of us. We want to help others, we want to make a difference.
But volunteering isn't about making a positive impact. It's about making a negative impact on your community. It's about spending your free time and money for others while depriving yourself of everything that makes life worth living.
When I first started volunteering, I didn't fully realize how damaging it was. Volunteering doesn't give you anything in return, and yet, people spend years volunteering for organizations that don't really care about them.
Don't get me wrong. There are some incredible organizations out there. But most of them are full of people who just want to volunteer.
In my case, the organization I volunteered with had nothing to offer me. All I got was a paycheck, which I would then send back to them. They were a non-profit organization that was supposed to be helping children, but all they did was take my money.
I was getting paid to sit around and wait for my name to be called. It was a waste of my time, and it was a waste of money.
I wanted to find a better fit for myself, so I went looking for one that was more beneficial. It turned out to be a much better fit, and it gave me a lot more to offer than just money.
You'll never feel unfulfilled. You'll be surrounded by people that genuinely care about you. You'll have a sense of purpose. And, you'll have a strong network of friends and family that you care about.
As you can see, volunteering isn't a waste of time. It's the perfect blend of helping people and making a positive impact on your community.
