Hello lovely Steemian friends.
Those of you that are in the communities that I am active in may know I've had a tough few days and have been a bit absent. So know it's time to pull myself up, move on and get myself back into the business of life.
This year has been one of trying to maintain focus and direction albeit has at times been more of a struggle than I would have liked. (I am blaming the mid life crisis hormones!)
I talked in a recent post about running, yoga, mediation and mindfulness as a way I try to keep myself pointed in the right direction. You can find that post at Finding the Calm - Running, Meditation and Mindfulness
Today I thought I'd sahre a few of my favourite quotes that really keep motivated, focussed and following my dreams.
To me following and achieving your dreams (or goals - whatever you want to call them) is closely related to your emotional well being - possibly even your physical well-being. I tend to find humans are all one complicated interactive system.
However, chasing your dreams.. can be a really scary thing for many people.
Now this might sound a little counter intuitive – after all isn’t this what should make us happy? It’s scary because there is the chance of failure – in fact it’s a good chance when you start on the path. People struggle to set the right expectations, or realise how much hard work will be involved.
In this age of instant gratification, it’s becoming even more difficult – actors, singers, entrepreneurs seemingly have overnight success. But dig deeper and there is much more effort..and time put in.
Sometimes though, it just takes a little motivation or inspiration to keep you on the path. Our book shelves are filled with motivational books, inspirational biographies, step by step guides.. all focussed on going after our dreams.
But all you often need is to glance at an inspirational quote, to remember why you get up in the morning. There are thousands on the internet – find those that speak to your heart, offer support around what challenges you most often and make you feel invigorated about your goals. Here are my five favourite and some of my thoughts about those quotes.
Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams. – Donovan Bailey.
Donovan Bailey is a canadian sprinter, who held the world record for the 100m sprint after winning gold at the 1996 Olympic Games – becoming the world’s fastest man. Sacrifice and hard work is no stranger.
When you truly want something you need to work hard, ignore the naysers. Let your desire and passion drive you – even when sometimes it might seem the smarter thing to give up. This will keep you motivated and focussed on your goals.
I think when you move past your fear and you go after your dreams wholeheartedly, you become free. – LL Cool J.
Fear can hold us all back. But it is much better to have tried and failed than never tried at all. Once you can ignore, or at least put aside that little voice in your head that whispers your fears, you will be amazed at how things can start to fall into place to achieve what you desire.
In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can. – Nikos Kazamtzakis
The ability to believe in one’s self is what differentiates successful people (bearing in mind success means different things to different people as well.) While intelligence, resources and circumstance to have their part to play I think one of the biggest contributor is self belief.
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. – Thomas Edison
Few people succeed on reaching their dreams and goals on their first attempt. But many people give up after one or two attempts. Imagine if the next attempt was the one that got you over the line
It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop. – Confucius
It’s about moving forward. We need to run our own race and be less concerned with comparing ourselves with others in order to gauge success and self worth. Focus on what you want, direct your passions to achieving that goal and it will happen in the time that is right. Surrender to the process, don’t push it, force it or rush it.

Those are great choices, I always feel drawn to the similar ones, about just getting started and being persistent, that is really the key to success in anything.
