My favorite books #1 - Start with Why by Simon Sinek
I met Simon Sinek at the Inc 500/5000 conference the first time in 2012 and was startled by his point of views. Definitely recommend the book. He writes about a fundamental change how you see things in the business world in interacting with people but you can translate this also in your private relationships and the way you communicate.
Manipulations lead to transactions, not loyalty
For transactions that occur an average of once, carrots and sticks are the best way to elicit the
desired behavior. Manipulations are perfectly valid strategy for driving a transaction.
It is the feeling of “we´re in this together” shared between customer and company that defines great
leaders.

Yea, this is a great book. A mentor once told me you can get anything you want as long as you have a reason. And that reason is the WHY. Great post.

Certainly, manipulation is for transaction only, not for long term relationships. If you want to build sustainable relationships, customers, business, better to play honest type of cards. Reselling to the same client is much easier and lower in costs than selling to new clients. In sales there are essentially 2 different type of sellers: Business Developers who go after new customers and practise hit and run, ie transaction focused. And when the prospect becomes a client, another sales guy shall take over who master the art of keeping a client onboard and generally has a whole different mentality.
