It doesn't matter if it's the beginning of a new school year, the beginning of a new year, or the occurrence of some other significant event in our lives; the question of how to begin anew comes up on a regular basis.

How can we make meaningful resolutions, and more importantly, how can we ensure that we actually keep those resolutions over the long term, so that our lives can become more peaceful and fulfilling?

In this article, I will share some important insights that will help you answer the question.

There are many people who have a strong desire to make changes on aspects of their lives that they are unhappy with, but they are unable to do so.

In order to make positive changes to their health, whether it be to stop smoking or to begin participating in sports again...

To definitively put an end to a toxic relationship in order to make room in one's life for social and emotional experiences that are more satisfying...

Or, whether it's the courage to switch careers or the initiative to launch a self-directed endeavour that is rich in meaning and fulfilment...

The simple fact of wanting something different is not enough to ensure a productive fresh start.

As the old saying goes, you can't always get what you want when you want it.

It is not enough to simply have the desire to alter one's actions or ways of behaving; rather, there are two primary components that must also be present:

  1. Define your WHY in as much detail as possible.

Before you can even begin to ask yourself how to make a fresh start, it is essential that you define why you want to experience this change (these changes) in your life, and more importantly, what benefits you will derive from it for yourself and for others.

If you believe that the "gains" you will experience as a result of change are not greater than what you will "lose" as a result of change, you will struggle to make progress in a tranquil manner.

You will find that this key is even more helpful to you in times when you feel like giving up.
After that, you will be able to motivate yourself by holding on to the reasons that got you started in the first place!

  1. The Following Minimal Advancement

Don't let the big picture of your change goal scare you. Focus on the details.
Concentrate on the stage that is most immediately relevant to your current situation!
