Strategies for Developing Patience and Inner CalmsteemCreated with Sketch.

Recognising impatience as the driving force behind one's lack of patience is the first step towards developing one's ability to wait calmly and patiently. When we have a better understanding of our propensity towards impulsive behaviour, we are better able to take steps to address the issue.

I would like to discuss three strategies that I have found to be beneficial in the process of developing patience, not only in myself but also in other people:

You might want to give some thought to investigating the underlying factors that may be contributing to the tendency towards impatience.

Be conscious of the sensitivity you possess. How likely is it that you will react to the following situations, given the factors and circumstances involved? Developing the ability to recognise them could prove to be quite beneficial. You now have the chance to get mentally ready for the event in advance thanks to this.

Could you please help me understand where the propensity to be patient comes from and how it developed?

It is possible that incorporating mindfulness into your day-to-day activities could prove to be beneficial. Cultivating a sense of presence and mindfulness, in which you give yourself permission to observe your impulses without making value judgements about them, is a good idea.

I ask that you give some thought to being mindful of the response you give. When you first begin to react to a stimulus, even if you are not consciously aware of it, you may find that you experience an increase in agitation. This may be something that you notice. Before coming up with a response to something, it's usually a good idea to give yourself some time to gather your thoughts first.

In light of the circumstances, there are a few essential aspects that must be taken into consideration. To begin, it is not unusual for people to occasionally experience feelings of impatience and irritability. In fact, it is quite common. Recognising that your impulsive behaviours are similar to those of other people is an essential step in addressing a common misconception.

In addition to this, it is essential to be aware of and in control of your impulses so that you do not allow yourself to be overcome by them. Your level of patience can be significantly improved by working on developing the ability to control your reactions in a variety of different circumstances.
