This is how you become kinder to yourself

To achieve a fulfilling and kinder life, many people must adjust their mindset and behaviors. Through conversations with skilled and experienced individuals, I notice a common pattern: they tend to be overly critical of themselves.

This self-criticism not only affects their well-being but also influences how they perceive and interact with others.

Many times, the harsh language we encounter in newspapers and on social media can be traced back to this internal struggle. When individuals are too hard on themselves, it often leads to extending that same unkindness toward those around them.

The cycle of negativity can spread within a community, making it essential to break free from these patterns.

From my observations, we have the power to create a happier and more supportive life for ourselves and those in our community by making conscious choices. We can choose to step away from an unloving life, which may look something like this:

  • Believing that I must never make mistakes.
  • Thinking that everyone has to like me.
  • Feeling the need to control every situation.
  • Worrying that I must be in perfect shape and beautiful at all times.
  • Assuming that when things go wrong, it’s due to my lack of skill, age, or fitness and that I just need to push through.

Instead, we can opt for a loving life by adopting these healthier perspectives:

Accepting that making mistakes is a natural part of life for everyone.

Recognizing that it’s okay if not everyone sees my value the same way I do.

Understanding that I only need to control the things within my reach, as total control is a false idea.

Taking care of my body in a balanced manner while embracing the days when I feel good, knowing that highs and lows are part of the experience.

Challenging the negative thoughts that lead to bad feelings, as they often stem from untrue beliefs.

By shifting our mindset from one of harshness to one of kindness, we not only improve our own lives but also contribute to a more compassionate community.

This transformation requires effort and a willingness to embrace a different way of thinking about ourselves and the world around us.
