After suffering a burst fracture in his L1 it was no surprise that this hogged all the attention but the rider he collided with, Justin Cooper as spoken out today for the first time since the crash.

"Muddy Creek is over and done with. Started the day out really great being fastest in both qualifying sessions. First moto P-2 and second moto had a freak racing accident on the first lap, really such a bummer for the both of us and it isn't an easy pill to swallow hearing the news of @JeremyMartin6. Wish him a speedy recovery and somehow everyone was able to avoid me, which I'm extremely thankful for. Man I'm extremely sore today, but I'm also nothing but thankful for my support crew. Some things you just can't prevent when there are so many riders in such a tight space. Again, freak accident out of both of our control while once in the air… Gotta keep moving forward."

Cooper himself was knocked all over the place and crashed out hard but managed to escape with bangs and bruises. He knows first hand what Martin is going through though having been in a similar place during the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross series earlier this year. Coopers significant list includes a concussion, nine broken ribs and three broken transverse processes (these are the extensions on the side of a vertebra that muscles and ligaments attach to) during the qualifying rounds at the Houston. Trust me, that is not a nice list!

This means cooper also did not score any points for the second moto after a very impressive first race. He still runs fourth in the standings though and is only eighteen points away from second place. He has impressed with his speed and also his starts this season and he will be eager to heal up ready for the next round as the rookie looks to make his first season something special :)
