It is now under 50 days until the gate drops on the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and even though the Monster Energy Supercross season is still going on, developments and news are flying in.

MX Sports Pro Racing has announced that $6,500,000 will be made available in prize money for the fastest racers in the outdoor season this year and has been sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. This is down to amazing support from six of the competing manufacturers chipping in and the already in place purse. This takes the total contingency amount to a record breaking amount.

This means Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki and Yamaha have put forward a total of $5,790,000 to add to the $1,000,000 pro purse and will be split between the 40 450 and 250 MX riders which is simply amazing.

Davey Coombs

President of MX Sports Pro Racing

"We here at the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and the entire racing community are fortunate to have such an incredible commitment from our manufacturers. Their support of the championship and its exceptionally talented athletes is a testament to the strength of the sport and its popularity. Its also a sign of the vital role Pro Motocross plays in the overall health of the motorcycle industry, and the influence the success of our riders has on consumers."

This means when the gate drops in Hangtown on Saturday, May 19 at the appropriately named Hangtown Motocross Classic the riders will be ready and waiting to compete for a chunk of this money! The current 450 MX Champion, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac will be wanting to put the Supercross season behind him after a series of stumbles which has taken him from favorite to mid table this year. I'm sure he will be looking to make a big statement in the outdoor season and get things back on track.

Also Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Zach Osborne will want to put a second 250 MX title on his shelf before moving up to the premier class. It's a tall order but he has the focus and skill set to do it, he just has to fend off a field of talent to do so... exciting times!
