Morning Steemers,
So when the rain started lashing down at Unadilla most fans were rubbing their hands together to see what five-time and defending Amsoil Grand National Cross Country Champion Kailub Russell could bring to the party. If anyone could navigate the slop and treacherous conditions then it would be a multi time cross country champion!
His Lucas Oil Pro Motocross debut kicked off to an amazing start as he shot off the line and was running in third in the first moto for the first few laps. He rode out an amazing race and ended the first moto in sixth place, not too shabby in my eyes! His day took a turn though in the second moto though although he got another good start and was running up front with the lead group, a mistake from Barcia saw the two come together which broke Russels brake pedal. This forced the KTM rider into a mistake later on in the race which saw him crash out completely and DNF.
The rider was a little banged up this week and has made the choice not to compete the following two rounds he was scheduled to ride in. He has confirmed that none of his injuries are serious but he is a little too sore to ride mid week and get his practice in. He had already stated that a factory 450 motocross bike is a beast to handle and takes a ton of strength to deal with and he didn't want to go out there on a factory bike and not ride to his potential.
While it is a shame i understand completely that he has a current Amsoil Grand National Cross Country Championship to think about and any champion would be silly to throw that away chasing something else. He has a fifty four point lead on Thad Duval with four races left in the series. I thank him for providing us with some great races at Unadilla and who knows, maybe we will see more from him once his season is done?
